University of Puget Sound Office Memorandum Date: To: From: May 1, 2001 Faculty Senate Matthew Warning, Curriculum Committee Chair Subject: Curriculum Committee Final Report for 2000-2001 This is a report of the activities of the Curriculum Committee for the year 2000-2001. The committee’s activities included, but were not limited to: 1. evaluating the proposed objectives and guidelines for new core rubrics paying particular attention to clarity and consistency; 2. revising the curriculum statement to accord with the proposed core and to address a variety of outstanding concerns; 3. evaluating eight departmental reviews; 4. approving 16 new courses for the existing core; and 5. reaffirming 11 core courses carried over from the fallow-year review. The attached “Disposition of 2000-2001 Agenda” provides a more detailed description of these activities and lists other miscellaneous business the committee undertook. As you can see, this was a very busy year for the committee. For the forthcoming year, we recommend the Curriculum Committee be charged with the following tasks: 1. review the question of whether to affiliate with special domestic programs; 2. review and assess the Special Interdisciplinary Major; 3. re-examine the maximum number of units permissible for a major and limits on numbers of units that may be directly or indirectly (i.e., cognates) required for a major; 4. assess the fallow year core procedures; and 5. evaluate the departmental/program reviews for Chemistry, History, Geology, Internships, Latin American Studies, and Physics.
