Curriculum Committee Final Report for 2000-2001
This is a report of the activities of the Curriculum Committee for the year 2000-2001. The
committee’s activities included, but were not limited to:
1. evaluating the proposed objectives and guidelines for new core rubrics paying particular
attention to clarity and consistency;
2. revising the curriculum statement to accord with the proposed core and to address a
variety of outstanding concerns;
3. evaluating eight departmental reviews;
4. approving 16 new courses for the existing core; and
5. reaffirming 11 core courses carried over from the fallow-year review.
The attached “Disposition of 2000-2001 Agenda” provides a more detailed description of these
activities and lists other miscellaneous business the committee undertook. As you can see, this
was a very busy year for the committee.
For the forthcoming year, we recommend the Curriculum Committee be charged with the following
tasks:
1. review the question of whether to affiliate with special domestic programs;
2. review and assess the Special Interdisciplinary Major;
3. re-examine the maximum number of units permissible for a major and limits on
numbers of units that may be directly or indirectly (i.e., cognates) required for a major;
4. assess the fallow year core procedures; and
5. evaluate the departmental/program reviews for Chemistry, History, Geology,
Internships, Latin American Studies, and Physics.
