Passed 10-14-10 Unanimously SGA Resolution 09-10-F A Resolution to establish a Salute to Service at Middle Tennessee State University Whereas: Student Military Veterans are some of MTSU’s best in civic responsibility and loyalty; Whereas: Student Veterans have different needs than other college students, due to their active-duty in the military, age, and extended absence of a traditional continued-education since completing high school, these needs including, but not limited to, emotional, physical, and academic areas; Whereas: The majority of MTSU Student Veterans have become non-traditional students due to their selfless sacrifice to their country, and yet are consequently less-informed of the many services MTSU offers specifically to them; Whereas: The MTSU SGA promotes service and scholarship, and our Military Veterans should be no exception to our commitment to excellence in our student body and recognition given to their outstanding efforts; THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED BY THE 73nd CONGRESS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY THAT: Section 1: MTSU SGA will host “Salute to Service” day for all MTSU Students who are veterans or current members of the military for awareness and recognition of their service. Section 2: This event may be co-hosted by the MTSU ROTC and campus OWLs, along with the SGA. Section 3: “Salute to Service” day will be held on campus the day before Veterans Day. Section 4: A copy of this resolution will be sent to all military personnel and veterans currently enrolled at MTSU after favorable passage, with this clause deleted.
