I believe in if you don’t take your chances, so they are taken. That is
why, I took that chance to go aboard in training ship to benefit from
others’ experience and enhance my medical skills and knowledge as
well. My learning journey was to Canada where different medical
issues are exposed and cured. Besides that, the doctors always try to
update their medications and medical science. My main goal to
choose Canada for my training ship was to get practiced in Mc Gill
University which is one of first fourth universities in world
rewarded in its efforts and studies in medicine. Besides choosing
perfect place for training, I choose to be involved in two major
medical departments: respiratory & cardiology medicine, 4 weeks in
each of them. The reason behind that was to get more update
knowledge of these diseases and how to manage them starting from
receiving patient in emergency room till discharge the patients with
his follow up as outpatient. Now I am going to give you brief
information about my training ship mentioning advantages and
disadvantages of it.
I started my training in the 4th of May 2009 at Montreal General
Hospital in Respirology. I became a member in a team and have our
own rounds under supervision of consultant and resident doctors.
They let me involve in examining their patients, reading images and
writing in their chart about their state day by day and to be
updating of their result or any procedure was done for them. We
received new cases at emergency room, clerking them and to do the
admission note. I am just grateful to work with this team who has
the favor to expand my knowledge in Respirology.
After I finished my Respirology, I started to have my training in
Cardiac Care Unite “CCU”. I did 4 weeks in this unite, receiving
patients with cardiac disease who became under our team
supervision, taking care of them, maintaining their state and doing
referral consultation to other department if there is need. I had
afternoon session’s everyday discussing cardiac diseases and
reading different ECG and commenting on them.
The only disadvantage of my training in CCU was that I didn’t be
involved in doing rounds in different departments with patients who
had cardiac problems as referral like what I did in Respirology.
Indeed, I enjoyed my time in Canada visiting different places there
and learned about its culture and everyday life. I joined with my
friends in trips to go to different places in Canada like: Québec’,
Ottawa and Toronto, Yamasaka. Canadian people are so kind and
helpful and I could meet also a lot of Arab people there. It was good
chance to improve my personality as well because I became
dependent and confident. Finally, I advice medical students to go
there for learning and tourism as hitting two birds by one stone.
