Promoting Women In Computer Science (PWICS) Meeting Minutes

We discussed statistics pertaining to numbers of women enrolled in computer science.
We thought a group name change to PWICS would help not dissuade men from becoming
involved.
Goals:




Support group.
 Help new students in CS not get intimidated
Mentor early women in CS.
More advertising to attract/retain women.
Provide lists of scholarships, fellowships, conference opportunities available.
Ideas:





Freshman intro class for women?
 If not an entire class, maybe some sort of workshop for a few class periods.
Presentation in computer literacy about our degree program.
Department-sponsored tutoring (for pay)?
Study nights before major tests.
Fun events?
Next official meeting: 5:00pm, October 8th, in LOV 151.
