How it works and why it is important to you This is an important opportunity for you Save time and money on extra classes you may not need! At Cameron University, students age 21 or older and active duty military personnel take the ACCUPLACER computerized placement tests (CPT) as part of the admission process. The scores from these tests determine the appropriate courses in English, mathematics, and reading based on your academic skill level. To start in a college class that is too easy, or too hard, will only lead to frustration. Subject CPT score Course Placement English 65-95 Developmental Writing English 64 or less Basic Composition Skills Reading 78+ (clears deficiency) Reading 64-77 Reading Fundamentals II Reading 63 or less Reading Fundamentals I Mathematics 98+ College Algebra Mathematics 75+ Survey of Mathematics/Intro to Statistics (not applicable to all majors) Mathematics 65-74 Intermediate Algebra Mathematics 44-64 Beginning Algebra Mathematics 43 or less Pre-Algebra English 96+ English Comp I If you score below the college course level, you are required to take the developmental course(s) listed in red on the previous chart.
