Who Are Our Candidates?
In order to be admitted to the teacher education program (ATE) at MTSU, candidates must:
1) have completed 45 hours of coursework (6 at MTSU)
2) have acceptable scores on one of the following tests:
a. ACT (22 or higher)
b. SAT (1020 or higher)
c. Praxis I
i. Reading 174
ii. Math 173
iii. Writing 173
d. Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate students have the additional options of:
i. GRE (800 or higher)
ii. MAT (385 or higer)
3) have an overall GPA of 2.75 or higher
4) complete a structured interview with faculty and P-12 representatives
5) have a background/fingerprint check
6) have disciplinary clearance from MTSU’s Office of Judicial Affairs
About half of our candidates use the Praxis I as the testing criterion for admissions (Table 1):
