A Great Opportunity
Concurrent enrollment allows outstanding junior and senior high
school students to take college-level courses at Cameron University
while still in high school. This is a tremendous opportunity for
students to get a head start on college and get a taste of what college
will be like.
Admission Requirements
Seniors:
Juniors: ACT composite score of 20 or higher (SAT of 940)
-OR3.0 high school GPA AND rank in the top 50 percent
of their high school graduating class
ACT composite score of 23 or higher (SAT of 1060)
-OR3.5 high school GPA
The required ACT score is the composite score without the writing
component. The required SAT score is the combined critical reading
and mathematical score without the writing component.
Home School and/or Unaccredited High School Student Admission:
Concurrent students who are receiving instruction at home or from
an unaccredited high school must be 17 years of age and meet the
requirements for high school seniors mentioned above or be 16
years of age and meet the requirements for high school juniors
mentioned above.
Enrollment Guidelines
Students may only enroll in a combined number of high school and
college courses that does not exceed 19 credit hours each semester.
One high school course will be considered to equal three credit
hours of college work in the calculation of the 19 hour limit. Any
classes taken at other universities or technical/vocational schools
will be counted as well.
Students must be able to complete all high school graduation
requirements by the end of the spring semester of their senior year,
including all courses required for college entrance.
Course placement and pre-requisite requirements will be enforced
on all courses. Students may enroll in curricular areas (English,
math and science) as long as they achieve a minimum ACT score
of 19 on the corresponding subtest or an overall SAT score of
890. Additionally, a minimum ACT score of 19 must be achieved
on the reading subtest or an overall SAT score of 890 to enroll in
any other subject (history, psychology, humanities, speech, etc.).
Furthermore, students must have both a 19 in the English and
reading subtests to be eligible to enroll in U.S. History to 1865, U.S.
History since 1865, and American Federal Government.
Concurrent students may not enroll in remedial coursework.
Costs
Concurrent students will be charged regular tuition and mandatory fee
rates established by the university. The exact cost will depend on the
number of credit hours enrolled in and the specific courses. Information
on tuition rates can be found at www.cameron.edu/info/schedules/
tuition. In addition, students are responsible for all other costs including
books, parking permit, student ID and any other associated expenses.
Tuition Waivers
Concurrently enrolled seniors in Oklahoma may receive a tuition waiver
for up to six credit hours of tuition per semester while concurrently
enrolled.
Concurrently enrolled juniors who achieve a minimum ACT composite
score of 26 (SAT score of 1170) and have a minimum high school GPA
of 3.0 may receive a tuition waiver for up to six credit hours of tuition
per semester while concurrently enrolled. Students must maintain a
3.0 collegiate GPA to continue to receive the waiver in subsequent
semesters while concurrently enrolled as a junior.
Concurrent
Enrollment
Students receiving a tuition waiver will still be responsible for all
other costs including but not limited to mandatory fees, books, parking
permit, student ID and other associated expenses.
Getting Started
Concurrent students should discuss concurrent enrollment with their
high school counselor, principal and parent or legal guardian. Once all
parties agree this is a opportunity worth pursuing, please complete the
following steps:
1. Apply for admission by filling out the application for admission and
submitting a $15 application fee. The application is available online at
www.cameron.edu.
2. Submit an official high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores.
3. Obtain all required signatures on the verification form and submit
the form to Cameron’s Office of Admissions. This form requires the
signature of the principal, counselor, parent or legal guardian and
student. The verification form is located on the back of this brochure.
All of the steps detailed above must be completed before students
will be permitted to enroll in any courses concurrently.
Once admitted and all documentation is verified, the student may
schedule an appointment for course selection and enrollment by calling
the Office of Enrollment Management (580) 581-2987.
Continuing Enrollment
Concurrently enrolled students must maintain a 2.0 college GPA
to be eligible for subsequent semesters of concurrent enrollment.
Additionally, students must provide a current high school class
schedule detailing all courses they are enrolled in at the high school
and any vocational/technical schools prior to enrolling concurrently
each semester. The high school class schedules should be provided
directly to the advisor during enrollment appointments following the
student’s initial enrollment. Students will not be allowed to enroll for
subsequent semesters untill a current class schedule is provided.
