Cameron Department of Physical Sciences
hosts annual awards and scholarship event
Cameron University’s Department of Physical Sciences recently presented honors and scholarships during its
annual awards ceremony and dinner. Awards were presented to chemistry, chemistry education, natural science,
and physics majors for their scholarly and academic accomplishments.
Adam Martin of Lawton received the Freshman Chemistry-Sequence Award, Srijana Subedi from Kathmandu,
Nepal received the Physical Sciences Department Student Worker Award, and Min Kim and David Mihalik, both
of Lawton, each received the Society of Physics Students Award.
Physical Sciences department majors receiving scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year were also named
during the awards ceremony. Sylvia Chavana, Lawton, received the Allen Zisman Scholarship and the American
Chemical Society Scholarship. Jimmy and Virgie Stanton Scholarship awards went to Miranda Jose, Elgin, and
Stefan Medina, Lawton. Recipients of Tom Brown Scholarship Awards were Christine Hanna, Lawton, and
Sweta Shrestha, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Departmental scholarships in chemistry were presented to Damodar Dahal, Kathmandu, Nepal, and Jessica
Wolf, Lawton, who also received a scholarship from Friends and Alumni. Additional Friends and Alumni
scholarships were awarded to Sujeet Shrestha, Kavre, Nepal, and Gavin Giles, Duncan.
The following students received a tuition waiver: Gavin Giles, Duncan; David Mihalik, Lisa Liter, Steven
Chambers, Rebecca Matlock, and Jerry Doty, all of Lawton, and Charlene Warren, Marlow.
