For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Aug. 17, 2006 Cameron University earns seven awards at annual college public relations contest Cameron University earned seven awards during the annual Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) awards contest, including three First Place honors. The awards were given during OCPRA’s annual summer conference, held recently at Western Hills Guest Ranch, near Tulsa. OCPRA is comprised of public relations professionals from the state’s public and private colleges and universities. The organization endeavors to increase the professional skills of its members, as well as promote higher education. This year’s contest featured competition in 27 different categories, ranging from writing categories to graphic design and marketing categories. Cameron received honors for work completed by the university’s offices of Community Relations and Sports Information. J. Adam Calaway, Laci Mace and Megan Spray, combined to win First Place in the Events Promotion category for their work promoting the Premiere of Cameron Village, held last October to celebrate the opening of CU’s learning-living complex. Spray also won First Place in the Large Brochure category. Steve Doughty received Cameron’s final First Place award in the Sports Writing category for his story entitled “First Ladies of the Link,” which detailed the inaugural season of the Lady Aggie golf team. Doughty also won a Second Place in the Sports Publication category for the Cameron Aggie Basketball 2005-2006 Media Guide. (over) OCPRA, ADD ONE Calaway, who is Director of Media and Public Relations, won Second Place in the News Writing category, as well as second place in the Full-Length Feature category for his feature on Cherrian Levy, a student who came to Cameron after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
