Cameron’s Department of Physical Sciences
hosts annual awards, scholarship event
The Cameron University Department of Physical Sciences recently recognized the department’s 2006
graduates and presented honors and scholarships during its annual awards ceremony and dinner.
Awards were presented to chemistry, natural science and physics majors for their scholarly and academic
accomplishments.
Those who received recognition as 2006 chemistry major graduates were Ferida Abubeker from Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia; Andi Ferrell Smith from Apache; Andrew Curry and Jesse Wilson from Fletcher;
Stephanie Dayus, Jeffrey Halye, Courtney Hill, Crystal Keys, Krista Lemley, Briana O’Malley and Valarie
Toodle, all from Lawton; and Kaci Michael from Snyder.
Senior recognition also went to Don Becker and Mark Polson, both of Lawton, as physics majors. William
Walker of Chattanooga; Cynthia Chambliss, Braedon Ford, Genevieve Hughes, Ketrina Lewis, all of
Lawton, and Chad Edgeworth of Walters, received recognition as natural science majors.
Special recognitions went to Becker for the Freshman Chemistry-Sequence Award and Polson for the
Society of Physics Students Award. The “Outstanding Student Worker” award went to Elizabeth Wolf, junior
chemistry major from Lawton.
Physical Sciences department majors receiving scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year were also
named during the awards ceremony.

Science awards, ADD ONE
Scholarship recipients include: Michael Landoll from Elgin, who received the Allen Zisman Scholarship;
Meredith Mercer and Timothy Laundre, both of Altus, who received the Jimmy and Virgie Stanton
Scholarship Award; and Andrea Brock and Nancy Rose, both of Lawton, and Zachary Stowers from
Duncan, who received Tom Brown Scholarship Awards.
Those receiving departmental scholarship awards were Rodney Barmettler from Cache, Kathryn Bonds
from Duncan, and J.R. Gillis, from Irving, Texas. Those receiving scholarships from Friends and Alumni
were Kristen McGee and Margaret Robinson, both of Lawton.
