Cameron ROTC hosts annual awards banquet

Cameron University’s Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) recently held their annual awards banquet where more than 75 awards were given to cadets honoring them for their achievements this year.

The Basic Course Excellence Award was given to Larecca D. Johnson, Lucia E. Hardaway, LaCharles M.

Brown and Elizabeth A. Schoen.

The Cadet Battalion Commander Award was given to Matthew S. Finnley and the Cameron University

Cadre NCO Award granted to Clinton L. Hopkins. The Department of the Army Superior Cadet Decoration

Awards were given in order to Gary W. Heimsworth (MS IV), Wayne O. Mackey (MS III), Jeffrey R.

Wozencraft (MS II) and Anthony R. Eckman (MS I).

Cameron University’s Distinguished Military Students/Graduates were also announced. Student honorees included: Byon C. Darling, William A. Poland, Matthew S. Finnie, and Gary W. Heimsworth. Graduate honorees included: Matthew S. Finnie, Heimsworth, Nathalia C. Moreno, William A. Poland, and Glenn C.

Tupper.

Other awards, such as the Fort Sill Patriot Spouses’ Club Award and the George C. Marshall Award, were awarded to Mimi J. Lee and Matthew S. Finley, respectively. The Military Order of the Purple Heart was awarded to Curtis E. Baxter, and the Professor of the Military Science Award was given to four honorees which included: Hardaway, James A. Cerrone, Hykeem K. Lewis, and Genevieve B. Hughes.

Professor of Military Science Certificates were given to (MS III) Baxter, Daniel W. Benz, Christopher J.

Harmon, Ballah Howard, Lincoln R. Lanier, Lewis, Veronica C. Meier, and Johnathan Wagner; (MS II)

LaCharles M. Brown and Schoen; and (MS I) Hardaway and Larecca D. Johnson.

ROTC Awards, ADD ONE

Reserve Officers Association Award went to James A. Cerrone, Clarence J. Price, and Tupper. Military

Officers’ Association of America (MOAA) Award was given to Christopher J. Harmon. Sons of the American

Revolution Award went to Joseph M. Fabre, and United States Automobile Association Award to Jillian M.

Lafrance.

American Legion Award was given to Meier and Heimsworth for scholastics, and Natalie Lawrence and

Justin R. Stuart for military. The American Veterans (AMVETS) honor went to Edward M. Gorbett. The

Association of the United States Army Military History Award was given to Daniel W. Benz.

Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Award was presented to Jeffrey S. Luffman and the

Daughters of the American Revolution Award to Moreno.

The ROTC Dean’s List Ribbon was given to Gorbett (MS IV), Moreno (MS IV) and Tupper (MS IV); Ballah

Howard (MS III); and Wozencraft (MS II). Military Order of World Wars (MOWW) Award went to Johnson,

Paul A. Purdie, and Lanier. The National Sojourners Award was given to Tammy R. Butler; The Society of the Scabbard and Blade was awarded to Luffman, Lewis, Harmon, Steven Grandberry, Baxter, and Lincoln; and the Society of the War of 1812 Award was given to Purdie.

The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Award went to Joshua J. Blum, and United Services Automobile

Association (USAA) Scholarship Award was given to Garfield D. Douse, Poland and Darling.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW) Award was given to Brian A. Abel; The Vietnam

Veterans of America Award was received by Douse; and Colonel Jack Wolfson Scholarship was given to

Finnie, Clinton L. Hopkins, Schoen, Stuart and Tusapa J. Taamu.

John D. Cunningham Memorial Award went to Blum and Lanier. The Ranger Challenge Awards went to the

Tupper for Team Captain, and Luffman for Outstanding Ranger Award. The National Defense Industrial

Association (NDIA) Award went to Grandberry.
