Frederick native earns PES scholarship;
first Cameron student to receive award
Cameron can now add another first to its repertoire.
Frederick native Jenny Jackson, senior business major, was selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship from
the National Phi Eta Sigma (PES) Scholarship Committee for the 2005-2006 school year. Jackson is the
first ever Cameron student to receive this scholarship.
Jackson was not aware that she is the first CU student to earn this award until she received a letter of
congratulations from Vice President of Student Services Dr. Larry Kruse.
“I felt quite honored, and hope that it encourages other PES members to follow suit and apply for the
scholarship,” Jackson said.
Jackson’s scholarship was one of 78 awards, totaling $160,000, given to outstanding members this year.
This is a change from the nine $300 awards given in 1970.
A few of the criteria used to select Jackson for the scholarship were high scholastic record with a minimum
of 3.5 cumulative GPA, participation in on- and off-campus service and leadership groups and campuswide academic recognition, awards and leadership roles. This year marked one of the largest number of
applicants in the history of the society’s scholarship program.
