For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, March 29, 2005 Cameron University’s chapter of Phi Eta Sigma to induct new members at annual ceremony The Cameron University Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma will induct 22 new members during its annual ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in the Will Rogers Room of the Shepler Center on CU’s Lawton campus. Elizabeth A. Joyner will be the guest speaker. Joyner, a 1989 Cameron honors graduate, is a senior attorney specializing in environmental law with the Williams Companies, Inc., in Tulsa. Phi Eta Sigma encourages and rewards academic excellence among freshmen in institutions of higher learning. As a national interdisciplinary honor society, Phi Eta Sigma was originally a freshman men’s scholastic honor fraternity. In 1974, the society dropped the word “fraternity” and accepted both men and women into membership. The Cameron chapter was established in 1985. Students eligible for membership must have successfully completed 24-42 hours of course work while attending full-time, are degree-seeking, and have a 3.75 grade point average.
