For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Feb. 24, 2005 CU’s Brewczynski Endowed Chair wins awards, elected to posts at recent national conference Let it be said, Dr. Shawn Carraher will never have moss grow under his feet. Carraher, the current holder of Cameron University’s Virginia Brewczynski Endowed Chair, recently attended the joint annual meeting of the United States Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship (USASBE) and the Small Business Institute (SBI) were he received numerous honors and was elected to two prestigious posts. During the meeting, Carraher became the president-elect of the International Small Business Institute Directors Association/Small Business Institute, which oversees 135 small business institutes worldwide. He was also elected program chair of the entrepreneurial support organizations division of USASBE. "I am honored to have been chosen by my peers to be the president-elect and program chair," Carraher said. "In all my work and in every position I hold, I hope to bring recognition to the great work being done here at Cameron University." (over) carraher, ADD ONE He also received the SBI 2005 Best Empirical Paper Award for his research, "Felt Fair Pay of Small to Medium-Sized Enterprise Owners in Finland and Latvia: An Examination of Jaques' Equity Construct," which he coauthored with his wife, Sarah. The research also received the Office Depot and Journal of Small Business Management Editor's Choice Award as the conference paper making the greatest contribution to the literature on small business management. The conference yielded several service awards for Carraher as well. He was honored twice from SBI, once for serving on the board and then again for acting as the program chair for the conference. The USASBE honor was for serving as the competitive papers chair, overseeing the submission of 237 papers. Together, the organizations bestowed Carraher with an award for his teamwork and leadership during the joint conferences. The CU professor also received six outstanding reviewer awards, including ones from the small business division of USASBE and five from various tracks of SBI, including: accounting and finance issues; education; entrepreneurial consulting; management and marketing; and community development, outreach and funding. "It's very flattering to have received the awards," Carraher said.
