For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Jan. 28, 2005 Cameron spring enrollment up from 2004 Cameron University officials report that enrollment for the Spring 2005 semester has posted a healthy increase from the comparable semester a year ago. Information collected on Jan. 21 – the official “census day” of the spring semester – showed Cameron enrollment at 5,382 students. That is an increase of 134 students – or 2.6 percent – from the Spring 2004 semester when 5,248 students were taking classes at CU. In terms of FTE growth, it is an increase of 3 percent over the previous spring. FTE — “full-time equivalent” — is a standard used by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to more accurately compare enrollment at the state’s various colleges and universities, and is based on computing enrollment as if every one of a university’s students were enrolled full-time. FTE plays an important role in determining the amount of funding a public university receives from the state. “We are thrilled to see Cameron University’s enrollment growth continue,” said President Cindy Ross. “These new spring enrollment figures indicate that students continue to make CU their ‘university of choice.’ As always, our goal is to provide students a top-quality education under a caring faculty and we believe the enrollment increase is a sign that we are meeting that goal.” The current enrollment figure includes 134 area high school students who are concurrently enrolled at Cameron, and 201 students who are enrolled as new first-time fulltime freshmen this semester. – 30 – PR#05-028 Editors and Broadcasters: For details, contact CU Government & Community Relations at 580.581.2211.
