Whang to present benefit recital at Cameron
Cameron University music professor Hyunsoon Whang will present a solo piano faculty recital at 8 p.m.
Oct. 7, with proceeds to benefit the university’s music scholarship fund.
Whang’s repertoire will include music of J. S. Bach, Mozart, Ravel and Chopin’s complete “Twenty-Four
Preludes.”
Born in Seoul, Korea, Whang studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts, the St. Louis Conservatory
of Music and the Juilliard School. She holds a doctorate in piano performance and literature from Indiana
University in Bloomington.
Whang has performed across the U.S. and in Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and her
native Korea. Critics have praised her as “the kind of player who appears to immerse her entire being in the
music.” Others have said “her execution is spirited, but exact,” and “always delivered with grace and
beauty.”
General admission to the concert, in Cameron’s University Theatre, is $6. Members of military, students
and senior citizens will be admitted for $4. The concert is free for Cameron students with proper ID.
