CU business instructor receives two certifications
Gregory Treadwell, an instructor in Cameron University’s School of Business, has been extremely
productive this academic year.
Treadwell, who started teaching as an adjunct for the school in 1994, was asked to join the Cameron
business department faculty as a full-time instructor last fall. And in the months since he accepted this
position, he has continued to expand his business and accounting accomplishments.
In February, after much studying, planning, and completing a difficult examination, Treadwell received his
certification as a management accountant (CMA) from the Institute of Management Accountants.
Then, on March 16, he received notification that he had also passed the Certified Financial Manager (CFM)
examination as well, a separate certification from the Institute of Certified Management Accountants.
According to the institute, accountants who earn the CFM demonstrate proficiency in many facets of
accounting and financial management by completing a nationwide comprehensive examination on financial
management and related subjects, meeting a two-year financial management experience requirement and
agreeing to comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Management Accountants.
“The time and effort consumed in preparing for the CMA and CFM examinations were well spent,”
Treadwell said. “I am confident that the efforts will benefit my students and clients.”
But Treadwell’s accomplishments do not stop there. He is also a certified FSA lender and continues to work
at his private accounting practice, which he began 16 years ago.
Despite his busy accounting career, however, Treadwell still finds time to work with students outside the
classroom. In addition to teaching business students the basics of accounting, he also serves as faculty
advisor for the CU chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the Business Administration Honor Society that recognizes
students who have excelled in the field of business administration, and helps run the Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance program on campus.
According to business school dean Dr. Sylvia Burgess, the department is pleased about Treadwell’s recent
certifications.
“Greg’s pursuit and attainment of these certifications is commendable,” Burgess said. “We feel extremely
fortunate to have someone of his caliber in our ranks.”
Treadwell received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Cameron in 1990 and his Masters of Science
in Accounting degree from Oklahoma City University in 1992, where he was also named an outstanding
graduate student by the OCU’s Meinder School of Business.
