CAPs plans Valentine’s bake sale & bazaar;
announces student, staff scholarship awards
The Cameron Administrative Professionals are offering an opportunity to do something nice for your
sweetheart this Valentine’s Day while supporting a variety of worthy causes.
The organization – the active voice of administrative assistants, program assistants and secretaries on the
CU campus – has announced its annual Valentine’s fund-raiser to help fund scholarships and other
projects.
The bazaar and bake sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday, February 13, in the Will Rogers
Room of the Shepler Center on CU’s Lawton campus. Baked goods, craft items, Valentine balloons and
live roses will be offered for sale. The event is open to the campus community, alumni and the public at
large.
Proceeds will be used to further the professionalism of CAPs members, provide scholarships to students
and staff, help members in time of need, and promote fellowship.
CAPs recently announced the recipients of three one-year scholarships, each valued at $400.

Kristin Darnell, a computer information systems major from Apache, was presented the first-ever Pyeatt
Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of one of the organization’s charter members, Brenda Pyeatt. Pyeatt
was the division secretary for CU Media and Public Relations when she died in September 2002. Because
of her interest and experience in computer technology, CAPs decided to award an annual scholarship in
her memory to a deserving CIS major at Cameron.
Two Cameron students who are also CAPs members were awarded Quaid Memorial Scholarships. Named
in honor of Jo Ann Quade, an accounting specialist in the CU Business Office who died in June 1997, it is
awarded to classified employees at Cameron to encourage and support their educational goals.
Quaid scholarships were awarded to Ina (Liz) Robertson, a senior art major and program assistant for
Cameron’s Student Support Services and McNair programs, and Tessa Craig, the secretary for the
university’s criminal justice and sociology department. Craig, another charter member of CAPs, will earn
her master’s degree in behavioral science this spring.
Both Robertson and Craig are from Lawton.
