Program Goals:
Content Goals
1. To provide students with knowledge of history that is broad and deep in the three academic tracks European history, American history and
Cherokee history.
2. To familiarize students with key issues, debates and schools of thought in each academic track.
3. To prepare students for research or teaching in the three academic tracks.
4. To prepare public history students for work in their field, this includes historical subject matter and ethical and pedagogical debates within the
discipline.
Skills Goals
1. To teach students how to think and read critically.
2. To build on student's existing writing skills and enable them to communicate clearly and effectively.
3. To familiarize public history students with the skills necessary for public history work.
4. To enable students in all tracks to carry out independent research
Professional Preparation
1. To prepare students in the three academic tracks to enter into reaching research and writing.
2. To ready public history students for careers in their field.
Student Learning Outcomes:

Create and interpret research results specific to the field of study in all tracks thereby advancing the state of disciplinary knowledge.
Present research to diverse audiences through publications in professional journals and conference papers.
