COLUMBIA BASIN COLLEGE 2005 UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND TRANSFER AGREEMENT This guide is a reference to assist students at Columbia Basin College in their preparation for transfer to the University of Puget Sound. It contains general transfer credit information and lists Columbia Basin College courses that are transferable as University Core requirements, 100200 level major requirements, or electives. Community college courses that are similar to Puget Sound courses numbered at the 100 or 200 level are generally transferable. However, as transfer evaluations are done in the context of each student’s academic program, it is possible for an evaluation to include courses not listed in this guide as well as to exclude courses that are listed. Therefore, students are encouraged to seek the advice of the Puget Sound Office of Admission (253-879-3211 or 800396-7191) in selecting transfer courses, especially those students with specific plans. A maximum of 96 quarter credits may be transferred. Community college students who wish to complete an associate degree prior to transfer are encouraged to do so. However, the University evaluates all transfer credit on a course-by-course basis and an associate degree itself does not provide any direct benefit. Students should use the course listings in conjunction with the Columbia Basin College 2004-2006 Catalog and the University of Puget Sound Bulletin 2004-2005. Due to the lag-time between the publication of the Bulletin and the publication of this guide, this guide is effective for the 2005 calendar year only and will be honored until 2007. This guide has two lists, one for courses that transfer as University Core requirements and one for transferable courses in general. Note any courses that must be taken in combination in order to transfer. If the combination is not completed, separate courses may not transfer. Students are therefore advised to complete a sequence of courses, rather than just one or two quarters. (For example, students studying calculus should complete Math 201, 202, and 203 rather than just Math 201 and 202). language requirement. Sophomore transfer students may complete 4 Core and the language requirement with transfer credit while junior transfer students may complete 5 Core courses and the language requirement with transfer credit. All transfer credit used in a major or minor program is subject to individual departmental review and approval. Academic departments may require a transfer student to complete an interview or examination before being placed into a program of study. Based on a student’s placement, transfer credit may be adjusted and a student required to complete appropriate courses in residence. Again, students are encouraged to contact the Office of Admission (253879-3211 or 800-396-7191) for assistance in planning their transfer to Puget Sound. NOTE: These listings only apply to regular course offerings completed by regular college students. Courses offered in other formats, such as programmedlearning, challenge examination, distance-learning, online, telecourses, or extension programs may not be transferable. Additionally, college credit earned by a student prior to high school graduation is subject to special evaluation criteria and reviewed for transfer credit on a case-by-case basis using both the high school and college transcripts. Students should contact the Admission Evaluator in the Office of the Registrar (253879-3219) for specific information. Similarly, all Contracted, Cooperative, Cross Cultural, Directed, Field, Honors, Independent, Seminar, Special, Travel Studies, and other courses with variable content are evaluated individually. Students completing such courses may submit a syllabus or abstract to the Admission Evaluator for review. Because curriculum revisions may occur during the year, all announcements are subject to change without notice. Additionally, this agreement is not to be regarded as having created a binding contract between the University and any student or community college. The University has implemented a new Core curriculum. The University Core includes 8 requirements plus a COURSE EQUIVALENCIES COLUMBIA BASIN COLLEGE TRANSFERABLE COURSES THAT COMPLETE UNIVERSITY CORE REQUIREMENTS FINE ARTS APPROACHES (5 credits) ART 116 Art History Ancient World ART 117 Art History Medieval-Baroque ART 119 Art History of Asia LIT 150 Introduction to Literature MUS 115 Music Appreciation MUS 116 History of Jazz HUMANISTIC APPROACHES (5 credits) ANT 120 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology LIT 160 Women’s Literature LIT 270 Shakespeare PHI 101 Philosophy Introduction PHI 131 World Religions PHI 150 Introduction to Ethics MATHEMATICAL APPROACHES (5 credits) CS 161 C++ 1 CS 162 C++ 2 CS 260 Data Structures in C++ MTH 130 Math Appreciation MTH 143 Basic Statistics MTH 147 Finite Math MTH 210 Basic Calculus MTH 231 Calculus/Analytic Geometry I MTH 232 Calculus/Analytic Geometry II MTH 233 Calculus/Analytic Geometry III MTH 234 Multi Variable Calculus MTH 243 Linear Algebra PHI 121 Symbolic Logic NATURAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) AST 101/101.1 Astronomy/Lab BIO 100/100.1 General Biology/Lab BIO 110/110.1 Human Biology/Lab BIO 111/111.1 Core Biology – Cell/Lab BIO 113/113.1 Core Biology – Animal/Lab CHM 110/110.1 General Chemistry for the Health Sci./Lab CHM 111/111.1 General Chemistry I/Lab CHM 112/112.1 General Chemistry II/Lab CHM 113/113.1 General Chemistry III/Lab CHM 120/120.1 Organic Chemistry for the Health Sci./Lab CHM 130/130.1 Biochemistry for the Health Sciences/Lab CHM 221/221/1 Organic Chemistry I/Lab CHM 222/222.1 Organic Chemistry II/Lab CHM 223/223.1 Organic Chemistry III/Lab CHM 251/251.1 Quantitative Analysis/Lab CHM 252/252.1 Quantitative Analysis II/Lab ENVS 100/100.1 Environmental Science/Lab GEL 101/101.1 Physical Geology/Lab PAGE 1 NATURAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) PHY 105/105.1 General Physics l/Lab PHY 106/106.1 General Physics ll/Lab PHY 107/107.1 General Physics lll/Lab PHY 201/201.1 Engineering Physics l/Lab PHY 202/202.1 Engineering Physics ll/Lab PHY 203/203.1 Engineering Physics lll/Lab SCI 100/100.1 Environmental Science/Lab SOCIAL SCIENTIFIC APPROACHES (5 credits) EC 201 Principles of Economics l (Macro) EC 202 Principles of Economics ll (Micro) PS 100 American Government PS 101 Comparative Foreign Governments PS 103 International Relations PSY 201 Social Psychology SOC 160 Gender Studies SOC 201 Global Social Problems LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT (15 cr or 1 200-level course) CHIN 101-103 (all) Elementary Chinese FR 101-103 (all) Elementary French FR 201 Intermediate French GER 101-103 (all) Elementary German GER 201 Intermediate German JPSE 101-103 (all) Elementary Japanese SPA 101-103 (all) Elementary Spanish SPA 201 Intermediate Spanish TRANSFERABLE COURSES LISTED BY NUMBER Symbols used throughout this guide are as follows: X Transferable course + Activity credit.
