Action Items
I. Minutes from the 3/31/10 Meeting – Minutes from the previous meeting were approved, after being
amended to correct an error in the draft minutes in writing up the title of one member of GECCo.
II. Spring 2010 Pilot Writing Assessment - During an extended discussion about rubrics, timing, and
objectives, it was decided by consensus to move the writing assessment to fall 2010 and to bring
forward the results from that assessment for discussion by the broader faculty in Spring 2011, quite
likely as an agenda item in the Spring 2011 in service. Monika Giacoppe, Leigh Keller, Emma
Rainforth, and Gladys Torres-Baumgarten volunteered to use the Environmental Science Written
Communication rubric as foundation material to construct a written communication rubric for
consideration by GECCo at its next meeting.
III. An Online Home for GECCo, and Handling of Meeting Minutes – By consensus, it was agreed to
request that GECCo be given space on the Faculty Assembly website, so that meeting minutes could
be made publicly available. Monika Giacoppe pointed out that we could also use GECCo’s online
home as a way to provide resources to faculty.
Discussion Items
I. Selection of the Committee Chair – Discussions about who will serve as the chair of GECCo are
still ongoing.
II. Timing for the Next GECCo Meeting – By common agreement, the next one hour meeting is
scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 5/5/10, beginning at 11:30am, location TBA.
III. Items for the Future - Some issues listed in the agenda for the 4/14/10 meeting will be carried
forward for discussion and resolution in the future. Those issues include final selection of a written
communication rubric for the fall writing assessment, working through further implementation
details for the fall writing assessment, and discussion of a draft of measurable outcomes for General
Education.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Woodley
