Meeting Minutes of Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Action Items
I. Minutes from the 4/14/10 Meeting – Minutes from the previous meeting were unanimously
approved.
II. Committee Chair – Rob Mentore was elected committee chair by a unanimous vote.
III. Fall 2010 Pilot Writing Assessment – A draft of a written communication rubric for the fall 2010
writing assessment was favorably received by those present, with some edits being suggested. The
next version of the rubric, after edits are completed, will be circulated for review electronically or in
a subsequent face-to-face meeting.
IV. Draft of Measureable Outcomes for General Education –Discussion about the proposed draft of
measureable outcomes for General Education made it clear that further revision and discussion will
be needed before a consensus is likely to be reached.
Discussion Items
I. The Engaging Departments Institute – The likely and desired outcomes from the Engaging
Departments Institute were discussed.
II. Timing for the Next GECCo Meeting – By common agreement, the next meeting is scheduled to
take place on Wednesday, 5/19/10, beginning at 11:00am.
III. Items for the Future – Some issues were flagged to be carried forward for discussion and
resolution in the future. Those issues include implementation issues for the fall writing assessment,
further discussion of measurable outcomes for General Education, desired outcomes from the
Engaging Departments Institute, and discussion about the prohibition against non-majors taking
particular Gen Ed courses.
