General Education Curriculum Committee (GECCo) Meeting Agenda October 27, 2010, 1:00 - 2:30 P.M. Venue: ASB-230 1. GECCo chair issue 2. form subcommittees to divide and conquer the tasks before us a. AAC&U subcommittee: this sub-committee will present the action plan prepared by the GECCo team that travelled to the AAC&U Engaging Departments Institute. Recommendations from the subcommittee should be presented to the larger GECCo committee. b. Mathematical Reasoning subcommittee: this subcommittee will devise a method to assess quantitative or mathematical reasoning in the general education curriculum. The committee will make recommendations on Gen. Ed. courses or categories to be assessed, student outcomes to be assessed, and will develop assessment tool(s). This subcommittee should seek input from the math convening group. c. Student Learning Outcomes subcommittee: this subcommittee will review the learning outcomes that currently exists at Ramapo, e.g., ARC Gen. Ed. outcomes, institutional outcomes and synthesize and distill them to a manageable set of 6 – 8 that can be assessed on a 2 – 3 year cycle. Methods to combine 2 or 3 SLOs should be considered so that the efficiency of the assessment process is improved. d. Curriculum mapping subcommittee: this committee will review the existing General Education curriculum map and refine it so that learning outcomes are clearly mapped to the current Gen Ed curriculum. This subcommittee may need to wait for the work of the SLO sub-committee 3. Collect syllabus from courses being assessed as an secondary (indirect) assessment 4. Continue to review and revise the Writing Assessment Procedure
