University Of Puget Sound 2012 2 Dear Puget Sound Faculty, Staff, Students, and Visitors: We are pleased to provide you with this third edition of the Access Guide for Persons with Disabilities. When planning activities and events such as meetings, classes, seminars, social events, conferences or guest lectures, please consult the Access Guide to be sure that your location is accessible. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act requires “program access,” so planned activities or events must be accessible to interested participants. Please bring the Access Guide to the attention of others in your area and keep it in a designated spot for handy reference. If you see information that needs to be revised or added, we welcome your input and suggestions. Facilities access is a complicated area of the law, governed by the age of the building, when alterations are undertaken, and the degree of the alteration. Puget Sound has a long range remodel plan in place, and physical access is part of that plan. By cultivating awareness and support, we can continue to provide and improve on accessibility for individuals with disabilities on our campus. The Access Guide is available in alternate formats upon request.
