Minutes of the Liberal Studies Oversight Committee (LSOC) 29 October 2002 Members Present: Millie Abel, Mark Couture, Fred Hinson (chair), Marsha Lee Holmes, Kathy Hosig, Don Livingston, Richard Starnes, and Charles Wallis Members Absent: Jim Costa and Will Peebles Fred Hinson called the meeting to order. The minutes of October 15th and October 22nd were approved. Fred Hinson announced that all the Undergraduate Deans had been informed about every member’s contribution to implementation and development of the Liberal Studies Program. Each member should be considered for merit in salary adjustments this semester. Discussion of the Freshman Seminars continued but the Committee decided not to deal with the repeat and replacement grade policy for these courses at this time. The Committee voted unanimously to delete ASI-108 and PSY-101 from the old general education course inventory. The following course proposals were reviewed: Ø REL-305 – Medieval and Reformation Theology: Divine Foreknowledge, Free Will, and Justification by Faith (P3 – ULP) – This course was tabled. Charles Wallis will meet with the course proposer to discuss one concern of the Committee. Ø HIST-107 – World Cultures in Historical Perspective– This course was approved for the P3 History Perspective Category. Ø ASI-250 – Introduction to Appalachian Studies –– This course was approved for the P1 Social Sciences Perspective Category. Ø REL-309 – Religion in Film – (P6 - ULP) – This course proposal was returned to the course proposer for consultation with the English Department. The next LSOC meeting will be on Tuesday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. in the Rogers Room of the University Center. The meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m. Respectively Submitted, Pamela Buchanan
