In May of 2007, the UNI Nicaragua Team visited the
work of the Psicosocial Group in Guadalupe. About 20
youth from several communities spend their afternoons
Muchas Manos Light Work
helping disadvantaged and abused children with their
schoolwork and about self-esteem. At that point the structure of the facility was crude
with now electricity and crude brick walls. The team from UNI allocated $600 toward the
finishing, painting, and purchase of shelving for the library area. Many books and learning
have been donated by the 2006 and 2007 UNI Nicaragua teams that will be housed in the
new library facility.
The team has been concerned about the darkness of the teaching room since their return.
During a visit by the instructor in August of 2007, costs of materials and labor for
finishing the teaching salon, the future computer center and office, as well as electricity
for the facility were sought out. At that time the work began on the library room with the
Psicosocial group and the UNI instructor helping with cleaning and painting.
Cost for Electrical Wiring for Entire Facility
The quote from Diego Mauricio Ortega Castro includes putting in 5 industrial fans, lights,
plenty of electrical outlets, the main circuit breaker box, connecting with service. The
price with all necessary materials and labor for all three rooms is C$22680.50 or
$1239.37. This includes adequate service for two computers in the laboratio room
opposite the library.
