Energy Management Updates:






Energy Management Specialist, Caden Painter, started July 1st.
Performance Contracting status. (solar tree was conditionally approved).
 Tree design was presented to the group
$717K ARRA grant – retro-commission HFR Admin & lighting upgrades.
CNG pump station
 Hydrofracturing explained to group
 Question was brought to group: “Will this be open to the community?”
House Bill 1292
Updates from the group?
 Possibility of using Space Management to assist with assessing energy usage
 Student can get class credit for participating in outdoor Continuing Education in environmental
responsibility
IT recommendations letter




Font as default – Follow up w/ William Frady & Imaging Committee for fall implementation. EM
developed instructions for users outside of computer labs. See attachment.
 Directions did not specify what to change font to (Century Gothic)
Duplex – cost reduction needs follow up w/ Tom Frasier.
Duplex – Follow up w/ Tom Frasier to offer assistance w/ instructional email. Might not know about
printer icon setup as mentioned in last meeting. Dirk recommended offering this to Print Services.
Requested an IT replacement for Dirk.
ES 495 Capstone Class – Faculty Instructor: Dr. Laura DeWald


15 week assessment project. Ideas include – recycling assessment, water quality perceptions (possibly
tying these two together), calculating carbon footprint for main campus.
8 students – possible 2 groups. Students will decide project scope when class begins in fall.
Sub-committee development – top three priorities: establish sub-committee chairs, create website, and
create green virtual tours.
 Establish sub-committee chairs - Check attendance first.
 Green tours of campus – Tour of Health building – fall 2010. Water Plant - ?
 Positive feedback and interest in seeing the Water Plant
 Website Ideas – SC mission statement, contact info, committees and description, tip of the month,
office/residence hall/home energy saving tips, carbon footprint calculator, links to proposed energy
dashboard at Harrill and Hunter Library, academic programs on campus, environmentally preferable
purchasing & resources, building and renovation updates focusing on green aspects, resource page w/
links, LEED info., housekeeping/green cleaning updates. More suggestions?
 Links to both on campus and off campus info
 More recycling containers and signage
 Starting a program where faculty/staff can earn an energy consciousness symbol
 Adopt a hallway
 Trash in recycling due to a lack of nearby trash cans
 More info about where recycling is available and what is recyclable
