Energy Management Updates:

$717K ARRA grant – retro-commission HFR Administration – design review phase

Performance Contracting – UNC BOG approved 1/14/11
Updates from the group? Quad update?
1. Residential Living has taken on 3 interns. They are being funded through the grant George Ford
received for the Construction Management Department. 20% of their internships have to be energy
related.
a. The Energy Management Office has taken on one intern. Nathan Pierce is focused on energy,
but has agreed to complete duties as assigned. Thanks Nathan!
2. WCU Catering has added compostable plates/cups/bowls to its available options.
a. This change has saved Catering lots of money due to the decreased costs of compostable
goods.

Earth & Wellness Day 2011 – ideas?
o EMO has teamed with the Employee Wellness Task Force (Whee Fit 4 Life program) for this year’s
combined Earth/Wellness day.
o Even will be held April 13th 10-3p at UC Lawn (Blue ridge conference room is rain location)

More Facility Tours in Spring – New Health Building
o Council has requested that this happen after graduation


 Programming & Outreach - awareness programs, campus events, etc.
o Education & behavior change
o Create list of service opportunities
o Create a WCU sustainability policy
 Education & Academic Integration – academic curriculum
o Course offering data collection
o Get more faculty involved
o Working w/ Faculty Center to offer green work shops
o Use meeting schedule template for fall to adapt to faculty schedules.
 Planned & Natural Environment – waste reduction & recycling, green building, dining
services, energy management, operations & maintenance, etc.
o Review existing policies (Pay for Print & Purchasing)
o Virtual green tour
o Goodwill trailer at move out
o Water quality advocacy
