Goal: “Think First” – solving complex problems
Alright- so we’re all here to get an education. But let’s be honest. Focusing on school work can get pretty stressful if you have a roommate that disrupts your daily living. In college you’re going to be exposed to many new people with different personalities. For the time that I’ve been here, I’ve seen all types of roommate problems – some simple, others much more complex. From what I’ve witnessed, there are three main types of roommates: the infamous
“partier”, the “invader”, and the “inconsiderate”.
The Partier: You always hear about these roommates. The partier is the one who comes in late at night/ early morning or always has people in your room. You may have even caught them in activities against the rules in your room. The Partier can definitely get you into some trouble if you’re not careful.
What to do :
If they’re only waking you up in the middle of the night, try talking to them first and ask them to respect your needs for quiet. If the situation is more extreme report them to your RA. If you cannot resolve the situation, request a new roommate.
Don’t be afraid to ask your RA for help! They’re there to help you.
The Invader: This person is constantly invading your space and/ or privacy. They may use your belongings such as computer or eat your food without permission. This problem can be easily solved. What to do: Explain to your roommate that they need to ask for permission to use your things. Lock your things in a chest or put them in a place where you’re roommate won’t find it. If you discover your roommate is stealing from you, report it to your RA immediately! Don’t be afraid to say “no” when you’re roommate asks for things. You have a right to say “no” because these are things YOU bought with YOUR money!
The Inconsiderate : This roommate is someone may do things as minor as having friends over and watching TV while you’re studying, or as extreme as purposely locking you out of your room for unreasonable and possibly even selfish reasons. What to do: I f you’re roommate is doing small yet aggravating things that are disruptive, try talking to them first. Negotiate times for studying and privacy . If it’s more of an extreme case, talk to your RA.
All of these situations can be fixed if your roommate is willing to cooperate. So the first step is to communicate directly and respectfully. People are less likely to be open-minded when they become defensive, so try not to use words that will make them feel they are being “attacked”.
Second, talk to your RA – they are there to help you find the best solution.

The Restaurant I choose to review was a Mexican Restaurant located in Asheville, North
Carolina named Papas and Beer. This restaurant is relatively new, but it is well established in the Asheville area already. People choose to dine here because of the very authentic
California style Mexican Cuisine that they offer.
The first thing that stood out to me when I went to Papas and Beer was the amazing atmosphere that surrounds you as soon as you walk in the door. Everyone from the hostess, to our waiter was pleasant and friendly in serving us our dinner. The entire restaurant seemed to be alive and filled with energy and that also made my dinner experience that much more enjoyable.
Along with the great atmosphere and service the food is amazing as well. The food at Papas and Beer no matter what you order is always made with the freshest ingredients, and served to perfection. This is the most evident in the Fajitas that have thick cut steak, tender marinated chicken, and fat jumbo shrimp that you cannot get like that at typical Mexican restaurants in this area. Also I enjoyed the salsa bar that has over ten different types of salsa you can pick from ranging in different taste and spices. Next they also serve a serve a wonderful California burrito that has a combination of grilled steak and shrimp and their house enchilada sauce on top.
The next thing that makes Papas and
Beer a great restaurant is the pricing is very fair for the huge portions of food that they serve you. You can get large portions of food for a very reasonable price that will have you leaving full and happy.
In conclusion, Papas and Beer is an excellent choice for any occasion if you want authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price. When dining at Papas and Beer you can expect a warm a friendly atmosphere that will make you feel like you are at home. I would highly recommend Papas and Beer to anyone who is traveling through the Asheville area who wants fresh Mexican food, and a great experience.
