Western Carolina University Office of Field Experiences Intern I Program Specific Guidelines Inclusive Education Initial Licensure Inclusive Education (IE) candidates are to teach one lesson each day of internship as soon as they are settled into the classroom. All teaching MUST be preplanned and documented in structured lesson plans. Initial teaching can be guided by plans developed by the CT. All intern developed lesson plans must be approved by the CT at least two days prior to the teaching event. CTs should indicate approval to teach by placing their initials on the top of each lesson plan. Teaching Requirements Met / Not Met Indicate Dates of Lesson. Please note which were formally observed as well. Lesson 1: Lesson 2: Lesson 3: The candidate will weekly select and submit 10 best lessons Lesson 4: that they’ve planned and taught to formally demonstrate knowledge and ability to teach and direct positive learning Lesson 5: experiences. Five are to be completed and submitted before midterm and 5 after midterm. Lesson 6: University Supervisors and CTs will each complete two formal observations on the lessons selected for evaluation, 1 before midterm and one after, providing written feedback to all parties. Students are to collaborate with US and CTs to determine the best time to conduct the formal observations. Lesson 7: Lesson 8: Lesson 9: Lesson 10: Diversity of Teaching Experience Candidates must teach a variety of subjects including 1 lesson in each of the main subject areas; English Language Arts, Science, Math, Social Studies For Inclusive Education candidates, this instruction should be conducted with students across both general and special education settings for a balanced experience. IE Candidates will plan and teach 4 sequential lessons on a literacy skill in the general education setting as part of the 10 required lessons. Candidates must embed technology in at least 1 of the 4 observed lessons. If candidate is unable to do any of these things please document the circumstances here: Inclusive Education Intern I Requirements- May 2015 Indicate the lesson from above: English Language Arts – 1 Literacy - 4 Science – 1 Math - 1 Social Studies - 1 Technology – 1 After gaining consent from parents/guardians, the candidate will video record at least two lessons beyond those which have been formally observed by the US and CT and reflect on their teaching. Videos For Inclusive Education Intern I’s, 1 of the videotaped lessons must be from the 4 literacy lessons. This videotaped lesson will be used for a prescribed self and peer reflection process. The University Supervisor will review at least one of the recorded lessons and provide written feedback to the intern and cooperating teacher. The candidate will reflect on each of the 10 lessons chosen for formal evaluation using the structure(s) provided by your University Supervisor. Reflections Professionalism Additional Program Assignments Video 1 Video 2 10 Lesson Reflections The candidate will complete a prescribed self and peer reflection process with the two videotaped lessons. 2 Video Reflections The candidate will reflect weekly on other aspects of the internship experience. The University Supervisor will provide a weekly reflection form and respond in writing to at least four of these reflections. The candidate will maintain a satisfactory record of professional behavior as described in our college’s Professional Dispositions Policy and your school system’s policy and procedures documents for faculty and staff. Professionalism includes attendance, punctuality, dress, correct use of English, etc. The candidate will document their completion of a set of orientation activities during the first 2 weeks of school using the “Orientation to Your School” document that is provided. 14 Weekly Reflections Dispositional Concerns Dispositions Final Evaluation Orientation to School The candidate will design/develop two bulletin boards / classroom displays that link to their instruction and provide emphasize desired lesson outcomes for students and class/school community. 2 Boards / Displays The candidate will complete a Literacy Instruction Assessment Project to demonstrate their ability to assess and analyze student learning, provide meaningful feedback to students, plan next step instruction using accurate data and monitor ongoing student progress.
