Dean’s Announcements
Welcome Back!
Discussion Items:
Career Pathways
Mentoring Program
Ellen Ross emerita status
The reconstruction of the 2nd Fl. Of G-Wing has created some offices issues, configuration
problems, lack of coat hooks, etc. The Dean will hold a meeting with Cambridge Construction
on Friday. One issue is the location of the computer screens. Presently, a student seated in
an office can view the screen and this causes confidentiality issues.
John McTighe, the new Asst. Professor of Social Work was introduced.
Ann Marie Moreno has been named the Asst. Dean of Social Work.
Career Pathways
Cathy Davey has advised that SSHS has received a $250,000 grant for the Career Pathways
program. A portion of this grant will be the salary of a 20/per week part-time advisor located
in the Cahill Center. This advisor will assist student’s in identifying their career path. This
field coordinator/career advisor will also assist in the creation of resumes and interview
skills. It was suggested that executives from corporations be invited to campus to assist in
mock interviews.
Mentoring Program
Emily Abbey and Maya Poran have developed a mentoring program for new faculty. It has
been suggested that each new faculty hire be provided with a mentor(mentors). The mentor
would provide information about the history and process of reappointments and tenure and
would assist in the creation of their reappointment books. Martha Ecker reminded everyone
that the tenure clock has changed from 5 to 6 years. There are questions that still need to be
answered. Will a stipend be provided for mentoring? Should a new hire have multiple
mentors versus one?
COPLAC will be held at Ramapo College this year. The application deadline for students
presenting is September 18th.
Martha Ecker presented the nomination of Ellen Ross for emerita status. The unit voted
unanimously in support of Ellen Ross’s nomination.
The following SSHS faculty are applying for sabbatical:
Donna Crawley
Martha Ecker
Leah Warner
A new version of I Citizen, a service that provides access to political issues, is coming out in
October. Are any faculty interested in using in their class?
