School of Contemporary Arts Unit Council Meeting March 4, 2015 Attendance: Tobin Addington, Marta Bautis, Mack Brandon, Peter Campbell, Regina Clark, Seth Cluett, Gilad Cohen, Meredith Davis, Yolanda del Amo, Renata Gangemi, Marc Gidal, Hilary Goldstein, Shalom Gorewitz, Pat Keeton, Ann LePore, Rebecca Leung, Lisa Lutter, Edna Negron, David Oh, Neel Scott, Ruma Sen, Beba Shamash, Jackie Skrzynski, Sarah Stackhouse, Maria Vail, Warner Wada. Dean Perry called the meeting to order at 1:15 pm Dean’s Announcements: -Dean Perry congratulated Jay Wholley on his exhibition, The Piero/Leonardo Project and Work with Me; a group exhibition of artists who have studied or worked with him. -Dean Perry announced that the Academic Achievement Awards are due on March 4th. -Dean Perry asked for nominations of an All College Career Development Committee representative to replace Tom Lueck. Edna Negron volunteered for 2014-2015. -Dean Perry announced that the schedule of classes for Fall 2015 is not completely finalized; we are still working on minor missing information. Mandatory advisement has been implemented as of March 1st for all CA students, except for First Year and graduating students. Fall registration will begin on Monday, March 30th. Guests: -David Nast, Director of the OSS (Office of Specialized Services), spoke about the Behavior Intervention Team’s role in the college. He recommended that the faculty explore resources that are available to them and use the referral process which is available on the BIT website (http://www.ramapo.edu/bit/bit-referral). -John Yao, Assistant Director/Academic Advisor/SCA Liaison, in CAAFYE, reiterated that mandatory advisement holds have been placed on all students; First Year Students and Fall 2014 transfers students’ holds will be handled by CAAFYE, all others will be handled by faculty advisors. -John informed the faculty that three writing intensive courses in the major or school core are required for graduation; suggested using the College Catalog for more information. Faculty Excellence in Academic Advisement Award. Students can nominate their faculty advisors for the award via link: http://www.ramapo.edu/caafye/faculty-advisement-award. The deadline is April 15th. Summer registration begins on March 9th.. Course withdrawal deadline is March 10th. Fall registration opens on March 30th. Lisa Lutter, the Academic Advisement Council representative, will work closely with John Yao regarding advisement. Lisa suggested more meetings with the Conveners and Convening Groups. Committee Reports: -ARC: Ruma Sen requested feedback on hybrid and online courses for ARC manual. -Gen Ed: Jackie Skrzynski informed that the highest amount of responses to the Gen Ed survey came from SCA. -TLTR: Ann LePore informed that the Spring deadline for TLTR grants is April 24 th; for further information contact Jeremy Teigen, Committee Chairperson.
