First-year freshmen and transfer students interested in pursuing careers or ​­graduate
studies in filmmaking (editing, camera, direction, screenwriting), global ​communications and related fields (writing, public relations, advertising, organizational
and —corporate communications, general communication studies, entertainment
law, media and cinema studies, entertainment industry, meeting planning), journalism, writing for the media, or visual communication design (graphic, print, web,
­interactive, and motion graphics). The liberal arts based curriculum at Ramapo
enriches any career in Communication Arts because it ­enhances ­communication,

APPLYING TO THE COMMUNICATION ARTS MAJOR
The Communication Arts major is located in the School of Contemporary Arts. Ramapo
College invites first-year and transfer students to apply. Each application for admission
is reviewed individually. For certain concentrations an interview and portfolio review
may be required. Please review the “Freshman Requirements” and/or “Transfer Requirements” section of the website for complete information on the application process.

EXPERIENCED FACULTY
The Communication Arts faculty consists of distinguished journalists, writers, authors,
graphic designers, filmmakers, screenwriters, and scholars, who are dedicated teachers,
and professionals in their fields. They are known for their professional achievements and
scholarly work. Our faculty have graduated from prestigious institutions including Columbia University School of the Arts, Columbia University School of Journalism, Ohio University
School of Communication Studies, New York University, Rutgers University-Mason Gross
School of the Arts, School of Visual Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, Sarah Lawrence
College and Temple University-Tyler School of Art. With faculty support, students have
won numerous accolades including design awards, scholarly paper presentations at major
­conferences, published articles and stories in newspapers and journals, and screened their
work at major film festivals.
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
Communication Arts is located in the H and C-Wings, which
feature high-end labs for graphic design, filmmaking, animation and motion graphics. Private editing suites, a sound studio,
a film and television production studio, a print and design
production studio, a convergency journalism studio, and
­equipment loaning facility enhance the facility.
