Success: Ramapo Chemistry
Students Demonstrate it's in their DNA
The College's Chemistry Club won the North Jersey American
Chemical Society contest for the best student club presentation at the
annual Chemistry Exposition at Liberty Science Center.
The Club presented experiments that focused on DNA extracted from
cheek cells and iron found in breakfast cereal as well as chemical
elements found in other foods. This is the second consecutive year
that the College's Chemistry Club has earned this award.
The Chemical Society praised Ramapo, "The best interactive
demonstration that applied to the (exposition) theme of “Our Health;
Our Future” was clearly the Ramapo College Student Chapter."

NJ Presidents' Council Responds to
Penn State Headlines
In response to the widely publicized, recent events at Penn State
University, the Campus Safety and Security Committee (CSSC) of the
New Jersey Presidents' Council (NJPC) recently reminded its
stakeholders of the safeguards NJ higher education has had in place
to help avoid such instances.
In 2009, the NJPC inaugurated the CSSC and, one year later, the
CSSC, with assistance from the NJ Office of Homeland Security,
developed and implemented a campus safety assessment tool that
covered the safety requirements of the:
- Higher Education Opportunity Act
- Jeanne Clery Act
- Recommendations of the NJ Governor's 2007 Campus Safety Task
Force Findings
The assessment tools include an institutional self-assessment as well
as an on-site peer-assessment. The assessments also evaluate oncampus mental health risk identification and treatment programs, and
the NJ law against bullying. The 2012 assessment tool will include an
expanded focus on the reporting of suspected child abuse to law
enforcement.
Over the last two years, Ramapo College has successfully participated
in both the self and peer assessments of the CSSC.
inspire her peers to pursue their dreams.
