ATHLETIC TRAINER:
One of the most important safety resources is our Athletic Trainer Jilli Kauppi.
Any injuries that occur during games and practices must be evaluated by Jilli. As a
certified athletic trainer through ATI Physical Therapy, Jilli can evaluate injuries,
provide specific exercises to help with those injuries, tape ankles, and provide
needed resources like scheduling free injury screenings through ATI and providing
referrals to local doctors, all in an effort to get the player back to the field as quickly
as safety allows.
Jilli is available most days beginning at 2:00 PM in the outdoor training room,
next to the soccer stadium. Athletes must come directly to the training room after
school. She will also tape before away games.
Returning an Athlete to play:
HHS policy states that any time an athlete seeks care from a physician for an
athletic injury, that athlete may not return to play until they have turned in a
signed release from the physician allowing the athlete to participate.
Parent notes are not acceptable. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS
POLICY.
Concussions:
According to the National Federation sports rule book,
“Any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a
concussion (such as loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, confusion, or
balance problems) shall be immediately removed from the contest and shall not
return to play until cleared by an appropriate health care professional.”
Accordingly the MHSAA has adopted the following protocol.
1. The officials will have no role in determining concussion other than the
obvious one where a player is either unconscious or apparently unconscious.
Officials will merely point out to a coach that a player is apparently injured
and advise that the player should be examined by a health care professional
for an exact determination of the extent of injury.
2. If it is confirmed by the school’s designated health care professional that the
student did not sustain a concussion, the head coach may so advise the
officials during an appropriate stoppage of play and the athlete may reenter
competition pursuant to the contest rules.
3. Otherwise, if competition continues while the athlete is withheld for an
apparent concussion, that athlete may not be returned to competition that day
but is subject to the return to play protocol.
a. The clearance may not be on the same date on which the athlete was
removed from play.
b. Only an M.D., D.O., Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner may clear
the individual to return to activity.

c. The clearance must be in writing and must be unconditional. It is not
sufficient that the M.D., D.O., Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
has approved the student to begin a return-to play progression. The
medical examiner must approve the student’s return to unrestricted
activity.
d. Individual school, districts and leagues may have more stringent
requirements and protocols including but not limited to mandatory periods
of inactivity, screening and post-concussion testing prior to the written
clearance for return to activity.
Please use the MHSAA Return to Competition Form found on the FORMS
& FEES page of the website when receiving clearance from the professional
listed in 3b.
All Hartland Athletes with a concussion will be required to follow the
Graduated Return to Play Protocol. This is a 6 step process that will be
monitored by our Athletic Trainer.
TRANSPORTATION RULES:
1. Any improper behavior on the buses will result in the loss of playing time. Using the
buses is a privilege, not a right, and should be treated accordingly.
2. All Varsity team members will ride the bus to and from all away games unless
previous written arrangement has been made with your coach and the athletic
department.
3. All JV team members will ride the bus to all away games unless previous written
arrangement has been made with your coach and the athletic department. Players
may either take the bus home or they will be released to their parents with a
signature from the parent.
4. If alternate transportation arrangements are needed the Transportation Waiver
which can be found on the FORMS & FEES page of the website must be completed
and submitted to the Athletic Office prior to the contest. This includes needing
alternate transportation to or from an away game as well as instances where
someone other than a parent will be collecting a player from an away site.
VARSITY LETTERS:
A Varsity Letter will be awarded to any player who successfully completes the
season and has played in at least two varsity level regular season games. End-ofseason tournament games do not count towards this total except in exceptional
circumstances.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
To help prevent injuries and increase performance all players must wear a
soccer shoe designed for outdoor use. All players are required to have shinguards
with an NOCSAE stamp that are appropriate for your height. Please see the Girls
Soccer website for more information. Both of these pieces of equipment as well as
running shoes and drinking water must be brought to all practices and contests.
UNIFORMS:
In order to promote team identity, unity, and attendance at our matches all
players will be required to wear prearranged dress on match days. Failure to
participate will result in loss of playing time and/or starting privileges.
It is expected that all uniforms and warm-ups issued will be returned promptly at
the conclusion of the season in the same condition as they were issued. Any loss of
or damage to uniforms will result in a fine commensurate with the replacement or
repair cost.
All players must purchase two pairs of socks for $25. Checks, separate from the
participation fee, should be made out to Hartland Soccer and given to your team
representative. If the purchase of socks or other equipment presents any problem,
please see your coach or the athletic director.
SCHEDULES, BUS TIMES & MAPS:
A complete schedule with Bus Times to all away games can be found on the
Schedule & Results page of the Girls Soccer website. It is important to check this
schedule for game site because some schools play at fields that are not located at
their high schools.
TEAM PICTURES:
Team pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 24th at 2:30 PM in the soccer
stadium weather permitting or in the gym.

FEES:
Athletic Participation Fee
All JV and Varsity soccer players will need to pay an Athletic Participation Fee of
$175. By Athlete Department rules, the Athletic Participation Fee must be paid by
April 1, 2016.
NOTES:
1. The athletic office would like you to pay online at
payforit.net
Since this is the same site used to pay for HHS registration costs, you can simply
use the account already created for HHS registration.
2. Partial or full scholarships may be available to students with financial hardships.
Families with this concern or those who may need a payment plan should fill out
the Scholarship Request Form that can be found on the Girls Soccer website
FORMS & FEES page. All information received will be kept confidential.
Payment of the Athletic Participation Fee does not guarantee playing time for
the athlete. It does make the athlete a member of the team.
Booster Fee
Payment of $115 needed if player did not fill three spots during the U of M
fundraiser in the fall. Fee needed to pay for: 1/5th of the kit, the Banquet, Senior
Night, Meet and Greet, indoor space for tryouts, etc. Payment by separate cash or
check and made payable to Hartland Soccer. Additional information on the
Booster Fee can be found on the FORMS & FEES page of the Girls Soccer website.
Sock Fee
Additionally, team socks this year will be $25 total for both pairs. Payment by
cash or check separate from the Athletic Participation Fee and made payable to
Hartland Soccer should be made to your team representative as soon as possible.
