Homework 24 (Due Monday, Nov 14) Solve the following 3 problems:
1. We roll a die 48 times; the number of sixes, ves, etc. obtained is 5, 12, 8, 11, 4, 8,
respectively. Is there any reason to suspect that the die is biased? Use a 2 test with
signicance level 5% to answer the question. Repeat the calculations with signicance
level 1%.
2. We have a pack of 52 cards, but we do not know how many hearts, spades, clubs and
diamonds are in the pack. We suspect, however, that there are 13 cards from all suits
there. With replacement, we draw 24 cards, of which 9 are hearts, 6 are diamonds, 5 are
clubs and 4 are spades. Use a 2 test with signicance level 5% to check the validity of
the above hypotesis.
3. A professor believes that in a test given in a class of 200 students, there are about 16%
A's, 24% B's, 36% C's, 20% D's and 4% F's. On the last test, the number of A's, B's C's,
D's, F's was 36, 44, 77, 35, 8. Do these numbers support the above hypothesis? Use a 2
test with signicance level 5% to answer the question.
