tral for more training and coaching on how to use WaveNet. How do I log in to WaveNet? 1. Go to www.hgtc.edu. 2. Click on the WaveNet icon at the top of the page. 3. Log into WaveNet with the username and password provided to you in your acceptance le er. What is my WaveNet Username and Password? Once you complete the admissions process, you will receive an acceptance le er in the mail with your username, password, and H number. What if I lose or forget my username or password? If you know your username, but forgot your password, you can s ll go to WaveNet to access your pass‐
word. Go to WaveNet, then click on the link that says “I forgot my password”. Then, enter your username on the next screen. Once you do that, you will be asked to answer your security ques ons you created when you first logged in to WaveNet. If you do not have a WaveNet username or password, contact the Help Desk at 843‐349‐5340. If you do not remember your username, contact the Help Desk. Be sure to set up security ques ons, so that in the event you forget your WaveNet password you can reset your password immediately without contac ng the Help Desk. 1. Log in to WaveNet. 2. Click the “My Account” link (top le corner). 3. Edit your old and new password in the first sec on. 4. Click Save Changes at the bo om of the screen. 4 How do I set up my secret security ques ons? 1. Log in to WaveNet. 2. Click the “My Account” link. 3. Click the “Click Here” link under the Setup Secret QuesƟons and Answers heading. 4. Enter your current WaveNet password. 5. Setup first ques on and answer. 6. Setup second ques on and answer. 7. Click on Submit Setup bu on. What informa on in WaveNet do I need to know about? A er logging in, you’ll find that ge ng around WaveNet is really simple. The Home tab contains important academic informa on, campus announcements and HGTC events through the EVENTS calendar, and access to campus email and quality online tools such as the Library, academic calendar, and faculty office hours. The OIT Helpdesk Center and Campus Safety tabs are there for your reference, please navigate through and become familiar with its support tools for technical error support and public safety support. The Tes ng Center tab, gives you direct access to scheduling a tes ng center appointment and find contact loca ons, numbers, hours of opera on. The Student Services tab is an important tab where you can access tutoring and college skills support and make tutoring appointments by using the SSTC channel. A Financial Aid Center and TECHNOLOGY Resources channel are available for addi onal student support and technology tools. Use the Student Resources channel to access gradua on requirements, the HGTC emergency manual, President’s list and Dean’s list, and HGTC’s online orienta on. The my Student tab links you to informa on about your courses. The My Courses channel inside this tab will link you to your courses and D2L for each course that you are enrolled in. You also may access academic transcripts, your advisors, registra on tools, student grades, personal informa on, student accounts and financial aid requirements in your my Student tab. Meet with a WaveNet Central Specialist in your campus Student Informa on Center: WaveNet Central for more training and coaching on how to use WaveNet and D2L! 5 Accessing WaveNet for Academic and Financial Aid Informa on Step 1 Step 1 ‐ Accessing WaveNet Go to www.hgtc.edu and click on the WaveNet icon on the top, right corner of the home page. Enter WaveNet with your Username/Password infor‐
ma on. If you do not have this informa on, please contact the Help Desk at 843‐349‐5340. Step 2 ‐ My Student Tab A er you logon to WaveNet, the default or first tab you see is the “Home” tab. Click on the “my Student” tab to access the my Student Main page. Step 3 ‐ My Student Main Page On the “my Student” screen, you can choose the links that you want to follow to access informa on about your aca‐
demic transcripts, your advisors, regis‐
tra on tools, student grades, update personal informa on, check your stu‐
dent account and financial aid require‐
ments. To start searching and/or registering for classes, please click on “add/drop clas‐
ses.” Step 2 6 Types of Courses On‐Campus Courses (Coded with a le er on the registra on screen. For example, C01 for Conway campus course, S01 for Grand Strand campus or G01 for Georgetown campus courses) The most common types of classes offered during your experience at Horry ‐ Georgetown Technical College will be on‐campus courses. You will be in a classroom where instructors can easily assist you in a safe learning environment. The classes you a end may vary based upon your program of study. Classes are by lecture so that you can get the informa on first hand. You will have ample resources including, but not limited to, in‐
structors, classmates, and other references found in the classroom. Hybrid Courses (Coded with an “H” on the registra on screen. For example, H01 for Hybrid course) A hybrid class combines classroom instruc on with online learning. In a hybrid course, a significant por on of the classroom ac vi es are online, which reduces the amount of me spent in a tradi onal, face‐to‐face classroom. Students benefit from the quality instruc on and flexibility of both the online and classroom learning environments. This type of course can greatly benefit students who have limited me for in‐person classroom a endance. Students need regular access to the Internet in order to complete their online course work. On‐line Courses (Coded with an “I” (VIR) on the registra on screen. For example, I01 for online courses) An online course offers you the convenience of comple ng your assignments through access to the internet from any computer. Students must take the REDI test and score the minimum requirement in order to take a course on‐line. On‐line instruc on may include live lecture using a web cam or chat session for the en re class. Course par cipa on and assignments may also include discussion board posts, blogs and tests. Some instructors may administer tests through the HGTC Tes ng Center (which is by appointment only). Students should access D2L daily for on‐line course assignments, messages from their instructors and any other infor‐
ma on for the course. Horry ‐ Georgetown Technical College has three campuses to serve you: Conway Campus 2050 Highway 501 East, Conway, SC 29526 Grand Strand Campus 743 Hemlock Avenue, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 Georgetown Campus 4003 South Fraser Street, Georgetown, SC 29440 7 On‐line Registra on Process Step 4 ‐ Add/Drop Classes ‐> Select Term A er clicking on the “add/drop classes” link you will be taken to the “Select Term” screen. Under registra on term, please select register term in the drop down menu. (For example: Fall 2012). A er choosing a se‐
mester click on the “Submit” bu on. Step 4 Step 5 ‐ Then, Click “Class Search” On this screen, you will not have a lis ng of a current schedule un l you register for classes. So, click the Class Search box at the bo om of the screen. Step 5 Step 6 ‐ Select Term A er clicking on the “Class Search” link you will be taken to the “Look Up Classes” screen. On this screen, choose the appro‐
priate course subject. A er choosing a subject, you may click on the “Course Search” to find the availability for each in‐
dividual sec on in that subject area. HOWEVER, we recommend you choose “Advanced Search” for more op ons and the ability to search by campus loca on. The next steps in this guide are direc ons for con nuing an advanced search. Step 6 8 Step 7 ‐ Look Up Classes (Cont.) As you proceed through the Advanced Search bu on, on the next screen, you may choose your selec ons from the appropriate fields: 1. Your course subject (for example: ACC for Ac‐
coun ng), Step 7 2. Your course number (for example: 111 for ACC 111), 3. Choose a schedule type (for example: Combined Lecture/Lab, Hybrid, OR Internet only), if de‐
sired, 4. Please also choose the preferred campus loca‐
on in the Campus field. (for example: Conway) If needed, in the Part of Term field, choose “Late Start…” for searching only late start courses. Step 8 ‐ Choose A Class Step 8 On this screen you will find all courses, sec ons, mes, and instructors of the Subject, Schedule Type, and Campus you chose. Find the one that suits your schedule and click the checkbox beside the course you want and click the “Register” bu on at the bo om of the screen. Step 9 ‐ Add or Drop Class Screen A er you choose a class and click on the “Register” link, the course(s) you selected will be displayed on this screen. This screen also tells you what date Step 9 (under the Status heading) you registered for the course. If you made a mistake and chose the wrong course, simply choose the op on from the drop down menu to “Web Drop/Withdrawal” un‐
der the Ac on heading, and click the “Submit Changes” bu on at the bo om of the page. This will drop you from the class and you can go back and register for the one you wanted. Repeat this process un l you have all the classes you need for the upcoming semester. If you receive an error message on this screen you will need to see your advisor or the WaveNet Central Coordinator. 9 Before you can Add/Drop a class online you must first be aware of the Online Registra on Responsibility Agreement. This agreement is post‐
ed as a disclaimer on the ADD/DROP screen as well as the ACCOUNT SUMMARY screen. Curriculum Students Tui on Deadline: All courses will be dropped if tui on is not paid. Online Registra on & Financial Aid: I understand that Financial Aid will only be awarded for classes that are required for my major. I also understand that if I enroll for courses not required for my major my Finan‐
cial Aid award may be reduced or cancelled. I accept full responsibility for repayment of any Financial Aid funds I have received for the enrollment period of non required cours‐
es. Financial Aid recipients who withdraw from classes will risk possible repayment or loss of funds! Refer to the following documents on your WaveNet Add/Drop classes screen for details on: Return of Title IV Refund Policy and Sa sfactory Academic Pro‐
gress (SAP). Online Registra on Responsibility: By registering on‐line the student assumes responsibility for selec on and the sequenc‐
ing of the correct courses. You should contact your advisor and ensure the courses se‐
lected are correct. Some of the issues in selec ng courses incorrectly include but are not limited to the following; mee ng gradua on requirements, acceptable elec ves, when a course is offered throughout the year, campus loca on of course offering, days and mes that a course is offered, and sequencing of courses. You are responsible for the courses you select and the result of those selec ons. 10 Withdrawal Procedure 1. Login to WaveNet. 2. Select the “My Student Tab”. 3. Select the “Add or Drop Classes” link. 4. If you are dropping during the Add/Drop period, go to the Ac on Bar under your class schedule and select Web Drop. Click Submit Changes Bar at the bo om of the form and a new schedule will appear reflec ng your ac on. 5. If you are withdrawing a er the Add/Drop period, go to the Ac on Bar under your class sched‐
ule and select Web Withdrawal. Click Submit Changes Bar at the bo om of the form and a new schedule will appear reflec ng your ac on. This will be the only op on available to you a er the add/drop period. 6. If you are withdrawing a er the two‐thirds point of the semester, you need to contact your course instructor to ini ate the withdrawal process. The instructor will withdraw you from the course and assign the earned grade. For total withdrawals a er the two‐thirds point, contact all of your course instructors. Web withdrawals will not be available a er the two‐thirds point of the semester. 7. If you are totally withdrawing for the semester, contact the instructor of the last course for which you are enrolled to complete the withdrawal process. You may drop all except your last course via the Web. The course instructor for the last class will assign the grade of W or WF de‐
