Student Trustee Jackson called the meeting to order at 9:20 a.m.
A quorum was present.
The following colleges were present: LAHC, LAMC, LAPC, LATTC and LAVC.
Absent: LACC (arrived at 9:50 a.m.), ELAC, LASC, and WLAC.
PUBLIC SPEAKERS
Mr. Raymond McDaniel, Cali Exclusive Clothing Company, distributed a
handout regarding an offer to provide merchandise design services, event
photography and social media services for the 2015 commencement
ceremonies held at each of the nine colleges this year.
Mr. Ali Asghar, ASO Senator at LAPC announced a rally in recognition of the
Armenian Genocide happening in East Hollywood on April 24, 2015.
ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY PRESIDENTS’ REPORTS
The following individuals reported on issues, activities, and events at their
respective campuses:
Mr. Raymond Gosen, LAMC; Mr. Sukhsimran Sandhu, LAVC; Mr. Alex O.
Oloo, LAPC; Ms. Tierra Gipson, LATTC; and Mr. Marco Marrufo, LAHC.
There being no objection, an additional public speaker was permitted to
address the Student Affairs Committee.

PUBLIC SPEAKERS (continued)
Mr. Denny Zane, Transportation Consultant, distributed a flyer regarding a
“MoveLA” conference happening on April 22, 2015 at Union Station with
keynote speaker Mayor Eric Garcetti. The conference will address expanding
services for student transit passes. Student Trustee Jackson and Trustee
Mike Eng are also on the panel at this event.
STUDENT TRUSTEE MONTHLY REPORT
Student Trustee Jackson reported on the following topics:
• Student Trustee Jackson recognized and thanked the Sheriff’s Deputy
presenters at today’s SAC meeting and for participating in the Board’s
Campus Safety Subcommittee of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Campus
Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
• Student Trustee Jackson is serving on the LACCD Food Services
Committee which is looking for volunteers to participate in a focus
group that will happen in the fall semester.
• Student Trustee Jackson participated in the Chancellor’s Investiture
held at ELAC on April 2, 2015 and reported that it was a successful
event.
• Student Trustee Jackson attended a forum on February 20, 2015 held
in the San Francisco Bay area with keynote speaker Governor Jerry
Brown. The forum addressed how to assist state inmates to become
productive members of society after their release from prison.
There being no objection, an additional Associated Student Body President
was permitted to provide a report to the Student Affairs Committee.

LIAISON REPORTS
District Office Report
Ms. Bobbi Kimble reported that the Student Information System has not
changed, the old system is still in use. Ms. Kimble encouraged the SAC
members to monitor their ASO/ASU/ASG budgets to ensure proper collection

of student fees. Ms. Kimble also reported that the state continues to
encourage and monitor the adoption of Associate in Arts for Transfer
degrees (AA-T) at community colleges, but students need to apply for the
degrees.
ASO/ASU/ASG Advisors Report
Ms. Sonia Lopez announced that the ASO Advisors would not meet this
month due to the Student Trustee elections. Ms. Lopez announced that the
Spring 2015 General Assembly meeting for the Student Senate for California
Community Colleges (SSCCC) will be held May 1–3, 2015 at the Ontario
Convention Center. This is a networking opportunity for ASO/ASU/ASG
students. Ms. Lopez also reported on accompanying six ELAC students to
the National Student Advocacy Conference held in Washington D.C. March
12–17, 2015.
The students met with lobbyists and legislative
representatives while in Washington D.C.
Chief Student Services Officers (CSSO) Report
None.
District Academic Senate (DAS) Report
None.
There being no objection, “Discussion Items” was taken out of order on the
agenda.
DISCUSSION ITEMS
Active Shooter Presentation
Deputy James McKain presented a brief PowerPoint and short video
presentation designed to train students, faculty and staff on how to be
prepared in case of an Active Shooter emergency. A free two-hour training
course can also be provided to anyone interested by contacting the Sheriff’s
Department located at LACC. Training information can also be found online
at http://activeshooter.lasd.org/.
Overview of the City of Los Angeles Commission on Disability, the
Department on Disability, and Future Proposed Projects at West Los Angeles
College
Commissioner Betty R. Wilson gave a brief overview of her role as the City’s
Commissioner for the Commission on Disability, and commended WLAC for
developing an initiative to reduce violence on campus. Ms. Wilson will return

to the May 8, 2015 SAC meeting to provide further information on the City’s
Department on Disability programs.
Overview of LACCD ADA Compliance Programs and ADA Advisory Committee
Ms. Mardell Kuntzelman, LACCD ADA Compliance Administrator gave a brief
overview of the LACCD Americans with Disability Act (ADA) website
(http://www.laccd.edu/ADA/Pages/default.aspx) and offered to be available
to provide any additional training on ADA compliance at all of the nine
colleges.
LACCD Student Trustee Elections
Ms. Lucia F. Robles, Interim Dean of Educational Support Services provided
an update on the Student Trustee Election process. A memo was distributed
to all Vice Presidents of Student Services and ASO Advisors on February 2,
2015 regarding the timeframe for the 2015 election period. All ballots are
due to the ESC on May 4, 2015 and a committee will be established to count
all ballots on May 8, 2015.
Results of LATTC Audit
Mr. John Noyola, Past ASO Senator at LATTC and Rosemary Sterling, past
ASO President of LATTC shared a video posted on YouTube of the May 2014
Board meeting regarding the ASO students that had filed a petition and
requested a hearing regarding the LATTC ASO budget. Mr. Noyola also
shared the supporting documents from the April 15, 2015 Budget & Finance
Committee regarding the results of the ASO Audit made by the internal
auditor, which outlined many expenditures unaccounted for and noncompliance with LACCD policies and procedures.
LACCD BOT ASO-Sponsored Candidate Forums held in February 2015
Student Trustee Jackson announced that the candidate forums scheduled to
be held in February will be discussed at the next SAC meeting on May 8,
2015.
Opt-In/Opt-Out update
This item was discussed previously during the District Office Liaison’s report.
District Administrative Council update
Student Trustee Jackson will be attending the District Administrative Council
meetings in the future along with the Vice Presidents of Administrative
Services for all nine colleges.

ACTION ITEMS
Resolution in Support of President Obama’s America’s College Promise
Proposal
A suggestion was made by Ms. Gipson to amend the resolution to use the
word “supports” instead of “endorses” in the first sentence of the last
paragraph of the Resolution. Discussion ensued regarding the effect that
this resolution would have on the California Community Colleges BOG waiver
funding.
Motion by ASO President Gosen, seconded by ASO President Marrufo, to
approve the Resolution as amended:

Motion failed due to lack of a quorum.

MATTERS FOR/OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Discussion ensued regarding the ASO Audit Reports for all colleges and the
lack of bike racks in the main campus area at LAMC.
RESOURCE TABLE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE – Marco Marrufo – April 15,
2015 (LAHC) and April 29, 2015 (ESC)
Mr. Marco Marrufo (LAHC) will serve as the Student Representative at the
Resource Table for the Board meetings of April 15, 2015 to be held at LAHC
and also on April 29, 2015 to be held at the ESC.
NEW BUSINESS
None.
SUMMARY – NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Student Affairs Committee is scheduled for
Friday, May 8, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. This meeting will be held at the LACCD
ESC in the Board Room. The deadline for submitting agenda items is
Monday, April 27, 2015.
