LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT PERSONNEL COMMISSION CLASS SPECIFICATION CLASS CODE 4027 HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SUPERVISOR DEFINITION Plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the installation, inspection, maintenance, alteration, and repair of hot water, high and low pressure steam, and direct gas-fired heating, chilled water and direct expansion refrigeration and air conditioning, and ventilating systems, equipment, and controls; has site responsibility for heating and air conditioning and other related work. TYPICAL DUTIES Supervises and coordinates the work of journey-level workers of the heating and air conditioning and other related trades, including planning, scheduling, and inspecting completed work for quality and conformity to work specifications and standards. Acts as the campus technical expert in heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and other related trades. Performs complex journey-level heating and air conditioning work in the installation, inspection, maintenance, alteration, and repair of hot water, high and low pressure steam, and direct gas-fired heating, chilled water and direct expansion refrigeration and air conditioning, and ventilating systems, equipment, and controls, such as pilots, relays, coils, heating and condensate piping, valves, compressors, fans, dampers, vents, blowers, pumps, burners, gauges, and traps. Inspects facilities for maintenance and safety problems, and schedules and performs preventive and corrective heating and air conditioning maintenance work. Estimates labor and material costs and prepares specifications and requisitions for supplies and materials. Oversees and inspects contract work in the heating and air conditioning and other related trades. Maintains heating and air conditioning hand and power tools and equipment to ensure their safe and efficient operation. Provides training to personnel assigned to the unit. Performs related duties as assigned. A Heating and Air Conditioning Technician performs skilled journey-level heating and air conditioning work in the installation, inspection, maintenance, alteration, and repair of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems, equipment, and controls at a college. SUPERVISION General supervision is received from facility management personnel. General supervision is exercised over Heating and Air Conditioning Technicians and/or employees assigned to a related trade or technical area. Graduation from high school or its equivalent AND completion of a recognized apprentice training program of at least four year’s duration in the heating and air conditioning trade AND two years of full-time, paid journey-level experience in the heating and air conditioning trade. OR B. Six years of full-time paid experience in heating and air conditioning work under the supervision of a journeyman or crafts supervisor, two years of which must have been at the journey-level. Supervisory experience is desirable. Special: A current and valid Steam Engineer License/Unlimited Horsepower certified by the Department of Building and Safety of the City of Los Angeles may be required for some positions.
