CORMP Honored by National Weather Service
UNCW's Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Project
(CORMP) was recognized by the National Weather
Service with a Public Service Award for outstanding work
in promoting marine safety in partnership with the
Carolinas Coast project. The awards were given out at
Wilmington's National Weather Service offices on April 2.
CORMP was honored for its assistance in the
development of the new experimental Carolinas Coast
marine weather web portal. The experimental Web site
integrates real-time marine data from eight major providers - National Weather Service
(NWS); National Ocean Service (NOS); National Data Buoy Center; Carolina's Coastal
Ocean Observing and Prediction System Stations (Caro-COOPS); United State Geological
Survey; Federal Aviation Administration; Department of Defense; The Skidaway Institute of
Oceanography and CORMP.
The new marine web portal will be a gateway for marine customers and partners to access a
variety of real-time marine observations, hazards and forecasts along the North Carolina,
South Carolina and northern Georgia coast.
