“Universities exist for discovery and exchange of ideas. Food, drink and convivial surroundings foster the exchange of ideas, and for this reason a
faculty club supports and advances the university mission.” . . . President Peter MacKinnon quoting Stephen Leacock
BREAKFAST WITH THE PRESIDENT
Hosted by President MacKinnon and the Faculty Club
Join President MacKinnon for breakfast in the Fireplace Room at
the Faculty Club every Friday morning 7:30 to 8:45 am. Breakfast
will be informal with an open forum format. Please reserve space
by calling 966-7777 at least two days in advance. The last breakfast for this term will be held on May 27th.
NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING OF MEMBERS
WE ARE GOING GREEN….
In an effort to advance the “greening” of the club, reduce costs
and share information with members more quickly, the Board
of Directors is considering the elimination of a paper newsletter.
Newsletters will continue to be emailed electronically with your
statements of account and a downloadable newsletter is now available on the front page of the Faculty Club website. We would like to
hear from you. If you would prefer to continue to receive a paper
copy, please contact the office at 966-7777 or by email: donna.
cram@usask.ca
A Special meeting of the membership has been called by the Board
of Directors for Wednesday, May 25, 2011 to discuss the possible fee
increase of club membership.
For all of the current news and events, please visit the Club’s website
at www.usask.ca/facclub/
After many years of curtailing expenses and enjoying positive
catering revenues, we will, this year experience a substantial loss.
We are anticipating a year-end loss, at June 30, 2011 to be around
$40,000.

Mother’s Day Brunch
New Times! First Sitting: 10:30 am Second Sitting: 1:00 pm
At the AGM in October 2010 Dr. Whitworth, Treasurer, reported that
the Board was monitoring our financial situation closely and that a
membership fee increase may be necessary in the near future (the
last increase in membership fees was July 1, 2003, nearly eight years
ago). During those eight years all of our costs, including utilities
and salaries have increased and as such we find it necessary to
address this situation as soon as possible. As I stated in my report to
the Membership at the 2008 AGM, and have said many times over
the years, “the only way we will survive (as a Club) is to operate
as an astute business and strive to always make sound business
decisions.” Your Board of Directors is doing that.
