Her publications include Affirming Diversity: The Sociopolitical Context of Multicultural Education (now in its 6th ed.); The Light in Their Eyes: Creating Multicultural Learning Communities (2nd ed.); and Language, Culture and Teaching: Critical Perspectives (2nd ed.). She has received many awards for her scholarship, teaching and advocacy, including four honorary doctorates, and was selected as a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, as a Laureate for Kappa Delta Pi, and as Wits-Claude Distinguished Scholar at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
