Dr. Jeffrey L. Brudney is the Editor-in-Chief of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, the premiere international journal in nonprofit sector studies. He serves on the Expert Advisory Board of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program on the State Of The World’s Volunteerism Report. He was also invited to the White House to hear President Bush’s “Remarks on Volunteering.” Dr. Brudney has received numerous awards for scholarship and service. He is the 2015 recipient of the Award for Distinguished Achievement and Leadership in Nonprofit and Voluntary Action Research (formerly called the Award for Distinguished Lifetime Achievement), given by the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). His article, “Toward a Definition of the Coproduction Concept,” published in Public Administration Review, was selected as one of the 75 most influential articles appearing in this top-ranked journal since its inception in 1940. He has been a Fulbright-Kahanoff Scholar at York University (Toronto, Canada) in the Voluntary Sector Management Program. Dr. Brudney has received the Mentor Award of the Women’s Caucus of the American Political Science Association for “Exceptional Guidance of Women Graduate Students and Junior Faculty Members in Political Science.” He has also received the Award for Excellence in Teaching from ARNOVA, and the Harriet Naylor Distinguished Member Service Award from the Association for Volunteer Administration Dr. Brudney is the author of Fostering Volunteer Programs in the Public Sector: Planning, Initiating, and Managing Voluntary Activities, for which he received the John Grenzebach Award for Outstanding Research in Philanthropy for Education. He is the author of many other publications, including Applied Statistics for Public and Nonprofit Administration, now in its ninth edition, which has been used for instruction in more than 120 colleges and universities. In 2015 Dr. Brudney received the Burt Gummer Award for outstanding article published in the journal Human Service Organizations: Management, Leadership & Governance, and in 2013 the Editors’ Prize for Best Scholarly Article published in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. He has also received the William E. Mosher and Frederick C. Mosher Award for the Best Article Written by an Academician published in Public Administration Review; the Academy of Management Public and Nonprofit Division Best Article Award; and the Herbert Kaufman Award for Best Paper in Public Administration presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association (four times). Dr. Brudney’s research has been used by both the Points of Light Institute and the Corporation for National and Community Service, the two leading U.S. government agencies on volunteering and service.
