Consulting & Engineering
Today’s business environment requires constant
improvement to maintain a competitive advantage.
Bastian Solutions offers clients a comprehensive
material handling system design using a proven
design process.
Our engineering methodology includes
collecting input from all key stakeholders. We
develop all of our concepts based on extensive data
gathering and analysis. Then we rely on our broad
industry experience to develop material handling
system alternatives and a set of evaluation criteria
to determine the best solution.
Our process includes defining system
requirements, developing layout options, performing
computer simulation analysis, and selecting best-ofbreed technologies. We use ROI and payback
calculations to determine the most economically
feasible alternative, as our designs are created with
the lowest overall cost of operation.
Step 1: Define.
Bastian Solutions engineers work with project
stakeholders to determine your project objectives.
Step 2: Measure.
Information is collected to help Bastian Solutions
engineers understand your business.
Step 3: Analyze.
Analyze data from your operating systems and
create data models that predict future states.
Step 4: Design.
Concepts are detailed by applying qualitative and
quantitative methods to criteria determined in the
data analysis phase.
Step 5: Validate.
System costs are estimated and a complete
economic analysis is done to determine feasibility of
each alternative.
Step 6: Client Presentation.
Client is given final presentation of costs and best
solutions.

As an independent integrator, Bastian Solutions can source virtually any
technology. Some technologies are strategic and some we manufacture. A
few examples of our equipment include:
1. Lifts
Vertical case lifts are designed
to elevate or lower cases, cartons
or other packages from one
elevation to another while
occupying less floor space.
4. Mezzanines
Mezzanines are built to increase
available square footage,
provide additional vertical storage
& support conveyor systems or
order picking/processing areas.
2. ASRS - Perfect Pick™
A new, energy efficient solution
for goods-to-person picking &
stocking of totes or trays at the
same time. iBOTs™ (mobile
robots) have access to 100% of
the inventory.
5. Spirals
Spiral vertical conveyors are
designed to continusously
convey both large and small
products vertically without
jamming, sliding, or tumbling.
3. Pallet Conveyors
These robust, reliable, and highquality conveyors automate the
movements of both empty
pallets and full pallets.
6. Case Conveyors
This extremely robust conveyor
design transports cases or trays
of product throughout
manufacturing and production
facilities.
2
Pallet Conveyor
Pallet conveyors automate the
movements of both empty pallets
(fast moving) and full pallets (slow
moving).
Robots
High-speed pick and place robots
take product from one location to
another with pinpoint accuracy.
Stretch Wrapper
Full pallets ready for storage or
shipping are accepted onto the
stretch wrapper envelope. The
wrapping media attached to the
load then wraps around it.
Extendable Conveyor
A versatile piece of equipment,
this conveyor can expand up to 4
times its retracted size to fit into
different areas of a facility.
Sortation
An ideal solution for separating
products from in-feed conveyor
lines to shipping lanes, palletizing
operations, packing stations and
other sortation applications.

Solutions
We Offer
A material handling system can be as
simple or complex as your operations
require. That is why we work with you to
find the best solution for your business.
Each system is customized to your needs,
allowing you to increase productivity,
reduce labor costs, and grow your
business. Take a look at just a few of the
options available.
Racks
Standard or custom rack designs
can be created depending on your
system requirements and storage
needs.
Automated Storage &
Retrieval (AS/RS)
Taking less space and inducing
no human error, AS/RS systems
are appropriate for moving high
volumes of inventory in and out
of distribution/manufacturing
centers.
Carousels
These automated storage and
retrieval devices use a series
of shelving units mounted on a
closed-loop track. The shelves
rotate to bring items to the
operator.
Picking Technologies
Pick to Light, Put to Light, Pick
to Display, Voice Picking and RF
Handheld are commonly used to
achieve greater operational
picking efficiencies.
Pick Modules
Pick modules are single story
or multi-level rack structures to
store inventory and pick items for
order fulfillment.

Supply Chain
Software &
Automation
Our Exacta software suite includes
a warehouse management system,
a warehouse control system, and
an order management system,
providing a unique end-to-end
supply chain solution.

Picking
Technologies
Intelligently manage your
supply chain with process
and inventory management.
Improve operational processes
& maximize the use of your
material handling system.
Select the correct tool to
maximize the productivity and
accuracy of your operations.
The Exacta Warehouse Management
System (WMS) provides the supply
chain tools and operational visibility
needed to run a lean operation and
achieve your business goals.
The Exacta Warehouse Control
System (WCS) includes advanced
automation control and planning tools
and provides visibility to system
performance. The Exacta WCS
collects information as events occur
from order fulfillment technology and
material handling equipment, as well
as other higher level software systems
to efficiently direct and manage
processing within a warehouse.
Looking to improve inventory and
picking accuracy for your growing
business? Bastian is a one-stop shop
for integrating picking technologies.
Picking technologies include: Pick to
light, put to light, pick to display, voice
picking, mobile RF picking, and
automated picking.
WMS Benefits:
· Increase in productivity and
efficiency without adding labor
· Reduce operating costs
· Increase in inventory control
and accuracy
· Better customer service
· More visibility within the
operations
· Enable increased order
throughput
· Reduce charge backs
· Decrease time in dock to stock
· Increase in operational capacity
The benefits of a WMS can be
enhanced with material handling
automation to reduce the labor and
cycle time to process items.
5
WCS Benefits:
· Single point of control for all
material handling and automation
tools
· Proactive, continuous monitoring
and feedback with real-time
statistics
· User-friendly with color-coded
graphical interfaces
· Built-in diagnostic tools, graphics,
and reports
· Remote visibility across
your organization via
networks, intranet and internet
Benefits of Picking Technologies
· Real-time information on order
progress and status
· Faster, more efficient picking
operations with reduced labor
costs
· Fewer picking errors leading to
greater customer satisfaction
Picking technologies can be
integrated with existing ERP/WMS
applications or as a part of the Exacta
Suite of supply chain software.
Sortation
Shoe Sorter. Shoe
sortation provides a
very soft, positive
divert at rates up
to 220 cartons per
minute. Shoe sorters
can be used in
applications where
there is a wide variety
of product sizes,
shapes, and weights
being sorted.
Sorters are the ideal solution for separating products from in-feed conveyor lines to shipping
lanes, palletizing operations, packing stations, and other sortation applications.
Pusher. High speed
pusher sorters are
used to sort items
difficult to convey
due to their irregular
shapes. High speed
pneumatic pushers
can divert 120 items
per minute and at
a right angle onto
chutes on close
center lines.
Cross Belt. Cross Belt
sorters are used to
sort parcels,
apparel, and small
items at high speed
as well as fragile or
high friction items.
Advantages include
tight divert centers
and sortation rates in
excess of 500 cartons
per minute.
Tilt Tray. Tilt Tray
sortation will
simultaneously sort
irregularly shaped
products from small
lightweight polybags
to larger packages
weighing up to 34 kg.
It works best when
the items are able to
slip or flow off the tray
by gravity.
Activated Roller Belt.
Activated Roller Belt
(ARB) is a modular
plastic conveyor
belt that enables
quick and precise
package handling
processes such as
sorting, merging, case
aligning and turning,
as well as product
singulation.
Narrow Belt. The
Narrow Belt sorter
is designed with
multiple narrow belts
to transport
product. High-friction
divert wheels rise up
between the belts
to accurately divert
product at a 30 to 90
degree angle at a rate
of 100 cartons per
minute.
