The James A. Noe Collection includes primary sources belonging to the former governor, representative, and businessman. James A. Noe was a wealthy independent oil man and state Senator who was chosen by his colleagues to be president pro tempore of the Senate. In 1936, Noe became governor for a five-month period when Govenor Allen died in office with no lieutenant governor to succeed him. Noe later ran for governor twice -- in 1940 and in 1959 but was defeated. However, his business interests were quite successful. Noe founded two radio stations and one television station. He also promoted the growth of his oil business which helped support his philanthropy. Noe was a lifelong supporter of what has become ULM, and that philanthropy has continued through the efforts of his daughter, Linda ULM Library Special Collections 700 University Avenue Monroe, LA 71209 318.342.1054 phone 318.342.1232 fax Emailspecialcollections @ulm.edu Homepagewww.ulm.edu/library/ archives Picture signed “The creation of Northeast College, as Gov.
