sewing projects, gifts that did not fit, books of all kinds, teaching resources, plants, end
tables, lamps, ceramics, etc. If you frequent certain stores and restaurants, consider
asking for coupons or certificates as a donation. Cindy Richards can send you a form to
fill out for businesses. Cynthia.Richards@nhcs.net
2. Dollars to buy raffle tickets!
3. Items needed for the “Make It and Take It” activity: markers or crayons, current
classroom vocabulary lists, and grammar topics.
From here on in the newsletter, the announcements are important, but most of you have
read them before… just skim if you are an old member, read carefully if you are a new
member or are thinking of joining us!
If you have not paid dues this year… Yearly dues are $15 ($5 for full-time students). Checks
should be made to Cape Fear Foreign Language Collaborative. Dues may be mailed at any time
to Julie Bordo, 202 Wayne Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. We have been fortunate to have
approximately 40-45 members paying dues in the last few years. We are still hoping to hit 50!
INCREASING MEMBERSHIP AND ATTENDANCE: Everyone is encouraged to
forward a copy of this newsletter with a personal invitation to someone else in your school
or county. Let’s see if we can’t increase our membership bit by bit by introducing our
colleagues to our programs and activities. If you are the only person who attends from your
school or county, please send an e-mail announcement to your list of FL teachers. Consider
especially new teachers or teachers new to our part of the state. Some teachers may not know
that the CFFLC exists! We all have so much support and knowledge to share. Don’t forget
that we keep track of attendance for the year and will distribute certificates verifying
attendance at meetings. These may be used to request CEU credit from your school
system.
SPONSORS: CFFLC has been sponsored for twenty-three years by the Department of Foreign
Languages and Literatures at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In recent years,
we have also received support from the Office of Public Service and Continuing Studies.
Funding support has also been received from the Women’s Studies and Resource Center at
UNCW for three years.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Our scholarship program continues to be a success. We gave two
scholarships to UNCW students last year and one to a graduating senior in high school for a total
of $800 awarded. Thanks to all faculty who made nominations. We will hope to bring in
enough from dues and our fund-raising raffle and to give the same scholarship amounts this year.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Please contact Joann Mount at mountj@uncw.edu in the event that you
have professional information and announcements that you would like distributed to our
membership.
Hoping to see you soon!
Joann McFerran Mount, Coordinator of CFFLC
Dept. of Foreign Languages and Literatures, UNCW / mountj@uncw.edu
