January 2014
Welcome back to the cold, warm, rainy, windy, dark, and bright school days of January! We’re
getting all types of weather – sometimes in the same day.
We are excited and honored to have Ken Stewart present our workshop in January. This meeting
has been changed to January 25 (rather than February 1) to accommodate his schedule. We hope
everyone has been receiving announcements and flyers and that you are sharing them with
colleagues. A flyer is attached to the newsletter message.
Already we have over 40 persons registered, and we are expecting more. I you have not signed
up, please do so immediately: http://cfflc.pbworks.com . We need to make final
arrangements for our breakfast snacks, and we need to arrange for a larger room if necessary.
Thanks to all who signed up early.

FUNDRAISING RAFFLE – March 22 (second half of the meeting)
As was reported in November, our wild and funny raffle now has national attention! It
will only be a matter of time until it is also internationally known! Who knows…there
may be a raffle at the Winter Olympics!
The raffle is great fun, but most importantly, it is essential for our scholarship program.
Please plan to contribute and to participate!
SCHOLARSHIPS: Our scholarship program continues to be a success. We gave scholarships
to three UNCW students in Fall 2013 for a total of $900; in the spring, we will give a scholarship
to one high school senior for a total of $200.
Scholarship nominations for high school seniors are due February 20, 2014. Please see
attachment and read nomination form carefully. Forms will also be available at the
meeting.
YEARLY DUES: Yearly dues are $15 ($5 for full-time students). Checks should be made to
Cape Fear Foreign Language Collaborative. Dues may be mailed at any time to our treasurer
Julie Bordo, 202 Wayne Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. We depend on your dues to help with
miscellaneous expenses and with the scholarships.
