Academic Inclusive Excellence
Charlotte School of Law is committed to creating a professional educational environment that leads the way in inclusive excellence. Inclusive excellence is an education model focusing on student-centered outcome success. We
provide all our students access to academic success programs that help them meet their education goals and prepare
for practice. We remain dedicated to providing a practice-ready educational experience with hands on experiential
learning through clinics, externships and pro bono work, thus reducing the gap between legal education and practice.

Service to the Community
Charlotte School of Law students have performed 134,021 hours of pro bono work, 128,148 hours in externships and 29,968 hours of community service since 2007.
Clinics
In our law clinics, faculty supervise students in the representation of live clients in a growing variety of clinics that support a legal
need in the community. Our clinics include the direct representation of clients with real legal problems and the advocacy of important legal
issues which need to be addressed by our legal community. Clinical students are able to take what they learn in the classroom and apply that
knowledge in helping resolve individual and societal legal problems. Students will develop not only an understanding of substantive law, but
also an appreciation for what it means to have a real client and to advocate effectively for that client.
Externship
Through the Externship Program, students are given the opportunity to work with attorneys at public interest organizations,
government agencies and private firms while representing indigent clients with real-life legal issues in civil and criminal matters. In addition,
students may also work with federal and state judges in the disposition of cases. These experiences enhance what students are learning through
classroom instruction.
Co-op Program
The Co-op Program promotes experiential learning by providing our students, many of whom have business
backgrounds or interests, with the unique opportunity to be mentored and supervised by corporate attorneys through internship.
