SENS Photo Contest 2015 www.usask.ca The Natural Environment www.usask.ca NE 01: Home Photographer: Bethany Templeton This photo was taken behind my parents house in Ormstown, Quebec during Thanksgiving weekend 2008. I like this photograph because of the fall colors of the maple trees, especially the deep reds. www.usask.ca NE 02: Tiger Lily Photographer: Naomi Carriere I just snapped this picture of tiger lilies in my neighbors yard. When I looked at it I realized there was a grasshopper and a few other little insects in the picture as well. La Ronge, 2013. www.usask.ca NE 03: Creek in Southern SK Photographer: Lorelei Ford I love this picture because I am often out sampling as early as 6 am in the morning. No one is around so it is just me and the flowing water. www.usask.ca NE 04: Ice on the South SK River Photographer: Lorelei Ford Sampling on the rivers in Saskatchewan can be dangerous but I went when it was ‐36 C to ensure there was enough ice. With 85cm of ice, we almost needed an extension on our auger. Yay for thick ice! www.usask.ca NE 05: Fall Water Quality Sampling Photographer: Lorelei Ford Beautiful fall mornings are the best for water sampling! www.usask.ca NE 06: Saskatchewan Fields Photographer: Bethany Templeton This photo was taken near the Crooked Bush just north of Hafford, Saskatchewan in the Redberry Lake Biosphere Reserve, summer 2014. It was like a treasure hunt to try and find this one. www.usask.ca NE 09: Rogers Pass Photographer: Julie Terry This was taken in August 2014 when I first arrived on my first ever road trip in Canada. This photo is from the top of Roger's Pass in the Glacier National Park, where I was surprised to find a wild flower meadow. I like this photo because it has mountains, the forest and the flowers, a stunning introduction to Canada. www.usask.ca NE 10: Saskatoon Ice Crystals Photographer: Julie Terry This was the view from the window in the back door this winter. I just love the formation of the ice crystals on the glass pane ‐ even though it meant it was going to be really, really cold as soon as I stepped outside. www.usask.ca NE 11: Saskatoon River Photographer: Julie Terry This was taken along the Meewasin Trail in June 2014 on my first days in Canada. Overall Contest Winner! Category Winner! www.usask.ca NE 19: Hide and Seek Photographer: Ana‐Maria Bogdan We were skiing on Waskesiu Lake when we came across sea otters' slide tracks. It looked as if the otters had had the time of their lives sliding on both sides of the snow pile. Soon we noticed the coyotes had been there too, closely following the otters, but there were no traces of an encounter. It was exhilarating reconstructing this mute wildlife story. www.usask.ca NE 20: 2011 Floods in Thailand Photographer: Amandeep Sangha The photograph is about 2011 Floods in Thailand which submerged natural surroundings by 2 meter water level. One of those times you want your work to last you all day. www.usask.ca RS 02: Boat Forward Photographer: Julie Terry A field‐day in Buffalo Pound Lake, Saskatchewan on 16th September 2015. We were finishing our field‐ work before winter arrived, yet it was a beautiful warm, sunny day and the lake (which is normally windy and choppy) was flat calm. One of those days to savor as they don't come that often during a field‐season. www.usask.ca RS 03: Buoy Photographer: Julie Terry This is the data collecting buoy that we have deployed for this first time this year for our research project at Buffalo Pound Lake, Saskatchewan, and we are excited about.
