MPA ALUM OF THE YEAR, 2012 CHAD MCEWEN – CLASS OF 2005 Chad is a former graduate of the MPA program with a concentration in Coastal Management and Environmental Policy. As a student in the MPA program he worked as an intern in the Planning Departments with the Cape Fear Council of Governments and the Town of Burgaw. Following graduation from the program in 2005, the temporary intern position with the Town of Burgaw was converted to a full time planner position. In 2005, Chad was promoted to Planning Administrator which he served until December 2010 when he was hired as Town Manager. Since January 2011, he has overseen numerous capital projects including the Wallace-Burgaw Regional Wastewater Treatment Project, downtown revitalization efforts, the Osgood Canal Greenway Project, and Phase 2 of the Sewer Rehabilitation Project. In addition to serving as Town Manager, Chad serves as Chairman of the North Carolina Blueberry Festival held annually in Burgaw on the third Saturday in June, Vice Chairman of the Burgaw Area Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chairman of the Boy Scout of America Investment in Character fundraiser, member of the MPA Advisory Committee, and member of the New Hanover County Board of Adjustment.
